Marvel announces new director for Ant-Man!

It seemed like Marvel may not settle on a new director for Ant-Man but it was announced today that the new director has been chosen!

Director Peyton Reed (Yes Man, The Break-Up, Bring It On) will now be leading Ant-Man into the Marvel cinematic universe! Adam McKay, who turned down the offer to direct the film, will be staying on to help with the script.

It became very clear that Marvel wanted a comedy director but it makes you wonder what this script is going to look like. Disney and Marvel felt so strongly about their direction for the film that they allowed talented director Edgar Wright to leave the project. Here is hoping that Disney and Marvel know what they are doing and developing and that new director Peyton Reed can create an amazing film.

Here is a synopsis of the film,
"Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, con-man Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), protect th…

First trailer for Sailor Moon Crystal is released! [video]

This is it Sailor Moon fans! The first trailer for the new series Sailor Moon Crystal has been released and it is getting a lot of attention.
"The look of the characters is certainly more reminiscent of Naoko Takeuchi's manga artwork than it was in the original TV series, but it may take a while to convince ourselves that Sailor Moon and her crew won't topple over every time they run." The long legs that the scouts have definitely is an odd look and can be best scene at the end of the trailer. I never got into Sailor Moon myself but I have many friends who absolutely love it and I know they are excited about this new series. Take a look at the trailer below and let me know how it compares to the older anime.

Sailor Moon Crystal will air in Japan on July 5, 2014.

Is Doctor Who a sexist show? Let's put it to the Bechdel Test and find out!

Fans have been accusing Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat of creating sexist characters for some time and study author Rebecca Moore analyzed the show and all of the modern Doctor Who episodes to see if it would pass the Bechdel Test. "The Bechdel Test was developed for films. To pass, a movie must have at least two women in it who talk to each other, about something besides a man." Surprisingly only 12 of Moffatt’s episodes pass the test (up until Season 8).

Looking at the results, Moffatt’s 57% pass rate is significantly lower than Russell T. Davies’ 89% pass rate. Does this mean that the accusations against him are correct? The test then breaks down the show to the female companions where the character of Donna Noble scored the highest. She passed the test in every one of her episodes. Way to go, Donna! Rose Tyler scored 74% but Moore notes, "Fun fact, Rose’s Bechdel test score would have been in the 80′s were it not for the episodes Moffat wrote during her run.&quo…

Jaw dropping 17 minute metal tribute to the history of video games! [video]

There's no shortest of metal tributes on YouTube but YouTuber FamilyJules7X has created one that definitely stands out! He created a 17 minute tribute that takes gamers through the history of video games. From games like Pong and Space Invaders, to The Legend of Zelda and Sonic, all the way to Fallout 3 and The Last of Us, this tribute has a little bit of something for everyone.
"I had a ridiculously fun time making this. The covers in the style I was doing them started to drain on me and I had to do something different. I've been planning something like this since the very beginning of my YouTube videos as I was greatly inspired by the Mario Paint video Evolution of Video Gaming, not to mention people like Fredde Gredde who put countless songs in one video and still made it enjoyable regardless of the length. I hope this video does everything I hoped it would for you and really take you on a journey through the amazing short life video gaming has had since 1972.  These p…

Brilliant fan made Guardians of the Galaxy poster gets inspiration from Star Wars!

Check out this awesome fan made poster by artist Matt Ferguson that combines the classic poster of Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope with the upcoming Marvel film Guardians of the Galaxy. The poster is a lot of fun and works pretty well. Here is what Ferguson had to say about his work:
"I can’t think of a film I have been more excited about in years. When asked to make a poster for the Poster Posse based on Guardians Of The Galaxy I thought to my self ‘Why am I so excited about this film?’. This led me to think about the way it has been marketed as an old school space romp akin to Star Wars and other films of my youth… then I had a lightbulb moment and realized ‘Why not just do a Star Wars mashup!?!’. My favorite Star Wars poster is definitely the classic Tom Jung design for the first film, so I just did that. Simple really. I have a goood feeling about this movie." I think most Marvel fans will agree that there is definitely a feeling of greatness about this movie and I kn…

Master swordsmith forges William Wallace's claymore from Braveheart in real life! [video]

Master swordsmith Tony Swatton turned to a more historical blade for this week's "Man At Arms" video. He took fans' suggestions and forged William Wallace's claymore from the film Braveheart! A claymore is the Scottish variant of the late medieval two-handed longsword. Swatton makes a comment that he thinks that this build may be his favorite from this season's builds since it is more of a historical piece rather than a fantasy piece from a video game or anime. I have to agree that watching this sword be forged did have an extra bit of coolness to it knowing that soldiers once really fought with this weapon. The resulting sword, the claymore, looks fantastic and down right scary if you are on the wrong end of the blade. Enjoy!

J.J. Abrams reacts to leaked Star Wars: Episode VII set photos with a photo of his own!

Recently, there have been a lot of photos emerging from the set of Star Wars: Episode VII and director J.J. Abrams has been taking note of them. Abrams tweeted a fantastic photo response on the Bad Robot twitter page that was truly fantastic. The note in the photo reads:
"I wish people would stop leaking photos from Episode VII. And making ridiculous claims that the Millennium Falcon is in the movie." The great thing about the photo is that it tells us a lot. First, the leaked photos we have been seeing are real. Second, the Millennium Falcon is definitely coming back. Big Star Wars fans may recognize what the note is sitting on top of. It's the holochess board from the Millennium Falcon. Seen in Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope when Chewbacca and R2-D2 are playing holochess during their trip to Alderaan. Great response, Abrams!

The Giver releases a new full length trailer! [video]

An all new trailer has been released for the upcoming film The Giver and it certainly gives the film a new ray of hope for greatness. This new trailer gives the audience a a grander view of the story and atmosphere of the book. This trailer is certainly a step in the right direction for the film but some fans may feel that the step is a little too big. The trailer hints pretty heavily (or in some cases just flat out tells you) some of the books twists so that is a little unfortunate. But all the same I am quite excited for this film as I absolutely love the book.

Here is the film's synopsis:
"The haunting story of "The Giver" centers on Jonas, who lives in a seemingly ideal, if colorless, world of conformity and contentment. Not until he is given his life assignment as the Receiver of Memory does he begin to understand the dark, complex secrets behind his fragile community. The film is based on Lois Lowry's beloved young adult novel of the same name, which was t…

New set photos from Star Wars: Episode VII show the Millennium Falcon and X-Wing being built!

Yesterday fans were treated to 45 set photos from the Abu Dhabi desert set of Star Wars: Episode VII and today we have several more photos from a sound stage in London. The new photos feature Han Solo's iconic spaceship the Millennium Falcon being built as well as a X-Wing. Although this X-Wing looks slightly modified so maybe this is an upgrade. Fans figured that the Falcon would make a return once Han Solo was a confirmed character but it's still great to get photographic proof. I can't wait to see Han and Chewie get into the Falcon and fly around one more time.

When approached for a statement Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy stated,
"I could not be more excited about Lupita and Gwendoline joining the cast of Episode VII. It’s thrilling to see this extraordinarily talented ensemble taking shape." At the moment there are no characters tied to these castings but if I had to take a hopeful guess I might say that Nyong'o would make a great Asajj Ventress.
