Francis Lawrence chosen to direct Catching Fire

It didn't take them too long to find their replacement as Lionsgate has officially settled on director Francis Lawrence to take control of Catching Fire. Lawrence will replace Gary Ross who directed the first film in the franchise, The Hunger Games, to blockbuster status. Francis Lawrence has previously directed Water For elephants, Constantine, and I Am Legend.

Now that they have chosen their director, Lionsgate has to move pretty quick given that they have given the movie a November 22, 2013 release date and, more importantly, they need to be done filming Jennifer Lawrence's scenes by the end of 2012. In January FOX will option her contract for X-Men: First Class 2 and Jennifer will have to report to the X-Men set.

Set photos of Doctor Who filming Season 7 in NYC

The cast and crew of the much loved British sci-fi show Doctor Who was recently in New York City to film scenes for episode 5 of the upcoming season. Filming locations included Central Park, Tudor City, Brooklyn Bridge Park, and even Times Square! I was lucky enough to be able to head over to some of the filming locations and watch the episode be filmed in person. I have met the cast on a few other occasions when they were in New York but watching them film was a whole new, incredible experience. I wasn't the only one who was watching either. Doctor Who fans from all over were heading to the locations (being shared over texts, Facebook, and twitter) to catch a glimpse of the cast in action. There's nothing like standing on the set, or in some cases in bushes, with dedicated Doctor Who fans and watching an episode be filmed. Especially since this episode holds very big meaning for our current companions, Amy Pond and Rory Williams. Between shooting the cast was spotted at vario…

Fan Art: X-23 takes down a Sentinel

I happened to find a great piece of fan art the other day that I wanted to share. Drawn by Deviant Art user dcwj, this piece of art features the X-Men character X-23 as she and Wolverine take down a Sentinel. The photo has a distinct anime style but is drawn and colored beautifully. What do you guys think?

Beware the Batman trailer for Cartoon Network

Life-Size Samus Aran (Metroid) Papercraft Sculpture

Flickr user IAmThatOneGuy has posted one of the most impressive papercrafts that I have had the pleasure of seeing. In his spare time he has created a life-size (6'10") papercraft of Samus Aran from the video game franchise Metroid. The papercraft is modeled after models from the game Metroid Prime 2 and has amazing detail.
"This is probably one of the most insane things I've ever conceived of, and I'm not 100% sure why I decided to do it, but having obtained game models from Metroid Prime 2, I decided to make a paper sculpture of Samus, life-sized. Pieces as I finish them will appear here. Why? I haven't yet figured that out. To pass the time? To give my hands something to do while I'm avoiding my work? To amuse myself for no reason? Because I can? In the hopes that some crazed fan will give me thousands of dollars for it? Maybe someday someone will explain it to me."For further pictures of different angles and pieces check out his Flickr set linked …

Star Trek (video game) trailer

Namco Bandai has unveiled their first teaser trailer for their upcoming Star Trek video game that will be based off of J.J. Abram's rebooted franchise. The trailer itself doesn't show you too much except for Capt. Kirk (Chris Pine) and Spock (Zachary Quinto) running from enemy fire surrounded by lots of action! However, we can say that the scenery for the game looks great. It is rumored that this game will be set between Abram's Star Trek and Star Trek 2.

The game is set to be released later this year (before the release of Star Trek 2) and will be playable on Xbox 360, Xbox Live, PlayStation 3 and PC.

Space Trek- Jedi Witnesses

Mixing Star Trek and Star Wars together is always a hot issue with fans but Mark Meer and his comedic team of nuts have released a great video that does just that. Watch on as two Jedi preach the word of the Force to the crew of this starship while laughs ensue.

The Hunger Games - How It Should Have Ended

How It Should Have Ended has some of the funniest media spoofs around and they have now set their sights on the movie power house, The Hunger Games. As usual in their videos, they not only point out some funny holes in the movie but manage to throw in references to other media franchises as well. I don't want to spoil the fun of the video so without further ado, enjoy!

Nick Fury speaks to Loki in the newest The Avengers clip

Marvel seems content on releasing these clips that are teasing the fans of The Avengers and this one definitely teases us. With a 3 weeks before the movie's release, I would bet that Marvel shows us one last clip that will really get us excited. This particular clip is an extension of a moemnmt we've seen many times in trailers and tv spots. It shows us the conversation between Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and Loki (Tom Hiddleston) where Loki is asking Fury how desperate he is that he formed The Avengers. Enjoy!

Tron: Uprising trailer shows us its potential

A new trailer for Tron: Uprising has surfaced and it is one that is worth watching. This new trailer gives us a good look at the story for this 10 episode series and shows us who some of the major characters will be. This new show will bridge the gap between Tron and its sequel Tron: Legacy. Given that this series has a definite start and end point, it has great potential. On top of that, the animation looks fantastic. Do you think this latest installment in the Tron saga will succeed or be derezzed?

Tron: Uprising will air this June on Disney XD.
