Confirmed (?) - Gary Ross is leaving The Hunger Games franchise

Earlier today it was revealed that FOX and Lionsgate had worked out their filming schedule conflict with their two films X-Men: First Class 2 and Catching Fire. This agreement meant that actress Jennifer Lawrence would be able to star in both films. Fans rejoiced at the news of the agreement and looked forward to more positive news in the future. However, mere hours later The Hunger Games franchise has delivered upsetting news to its fans.

The Playlist has confirmed that co-writer and director of The Hunger Games, Gary Ross, will not be returning to direct Catching Fire. Many will first assume that this had to do with the financial issues that were being reported about Ross wanting a raise for the next film. The Playlist confirms that this was only part of Ross' decision to leave the franchise.
"we're told the burning desire simply isn't there to spend another couple of years with Katniss in the Capitol (evidently, he also liked the first book best). And while the l…

Great fan-made Mega Man X video

Olan Rogers has created a fantastic Mega Man X video that does the game great justice. For a $700 budget he really created a video that captures Mega Man X. The video stands at four and a half minutes and is definitely worth watching.
"The beginning part of the video is a message Dr.Light records over 100 years ago, his lab is now abandoned. As the camera moves into the capsule you see a still running testing parameter where Mega Man X fights a hologram or drone in the form of Protoman. The reason I chose to use Protoman, was for the mystery surrounding him it's never officially said what happens to him. So after this test ends with a charged blast from X he faces a choice to kill but he chooses to show mercy, After which a hologram appears telling him that his testing is done. What isn't seen is who brought him out of the capsule which of course is Dr.Cain, maybe for another time. :) "

Rocky future for the Ponds on Doctor Who (Spoilers)

*Spoilers and speculation ahead*

With filming underway for the seventh season of Doctor Who, set photos and videos have been popping up a lot lately. The latest of which has shown a heated discussion between our two current companions, Amy Pond and Rory Williams, in the first episode of the season.

You can see in the photo that Amy is quite upset but to put it in context watch the video below. The video is short at 14 seconds, but it shows us what appears to be the end of an argument between the couple. Rory is seen storming from their house with Amy soon behind him shouting, "I hate this!" Next you see her holding her face in distress.

Updated information from Doctor Who TV says, "Seen on the set today was a prop of Amy and Rory’s divorce papers. It is believed that Rory gets on a bus with an envelope containing them." From the Season 7 trailer we see that Amy and Rory seem to be on better terms so maybe things smooth over as the season progresses?

X-Men: First Class sequel delays filming for Catching Fire

With both Fox and Lionsgate looking to film movies starring the now ever popular Jennifer Lawrence, the big question became which movie would shoot first; X-Men: First Class sequel with FOX or Catching Fire with Lionsgate?

Jennifer Lawrence first starred as Mystique in X-Men: First Class so many thought that FOX would use their option on her contract to film first. However, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that FOX is allowing the young star to continue her role as Katniss Everdeen in Catching Fire, which will start filming around August/September. This will give Lawrence a few months before the sequel to X-Men: First Class starts filming in January of 2013. This of course puts pressure on Lionsgate to get their director issues in order quickly so that they have enough time to film.

This of course means that we will now have to wait a few more months for the release of the X-Men: First Class sequel but if it allows us to get two amazing movies with an amazing actress then I think…

Look out, NYC! Doctor Who episode 5 filming has begun!

The cast and crew of Doctor Who has started to film the fifth episode of Series 7 and this will be the episode that everyone is waiting for. Not only will this episode see the return of the Weeping Angels (a fan favorite enemy) but it will be the farewell episode for companions Amy and Rory. Shooting for the episode has started in Cardiff at the Cardiff School of Physics and Astronomy building. The episode is to be set in New York City but the year in which this adventure takes place is still unknown. To get a more authentic feel the cast and crew will be packing their bags and heading to New York City later this month and will be filming on location.

Here is a short video taken on the set of the episode.

Below you can check out a photo slide show from the set of the episode that shows us the menacing Weeping Angels via alun.vega's flickr set!

Read the audition script for the Doctor's new companion!

The newest issue of Doctor Who Magazine has hit the stands and it has one very interesting article in it that reveals to fans the audition script that Jenna-Louise Coleman had to read in order to get the part of the new companion to the Doctor. The audition script gives us a good look at the new companion and even gives us a name! It's possible that all this could change but for the moment this is the first official look that we have on the new companion  and she seems fantastic!

Take a look at the audition script and see if you can catch the "Blink" references it has.
"The Doctor and Jasmine are investigating a haunted house.
DOCTOR: So you saw it coming in here? What did it look like?
JASMINE: Grey. Sort of dusty. Like it was made of spider webs.
D: And it came through the wall.
J: Yeah, that wall there.
D: But you don’t think it was a ghost. Why not?
J: Because there’s no such thing as ghosts.
D: You know, a lot of people who saw what you saw wouldn’t still think …

Gary Ross may not be back to direct Catching Fire

It appears that Gary Ross, director for The Hunger Games, may not be around to direct the sequel Catching Fire. So far he is not yet signed on for the sequel and may be holding out for a raise since The Hunger Games did so amazingly well earning $363 million. For the first film Ross only earned $3 million to co-write the screenplay and direct the film. Being a veteran film maker he now wants a modest raise. In the past Lionsgate hasn't been known to dish out big raises so the question is whether or not Ross will take Lionsgate's offer or move on and leave Catching Fire to another director.

Whatever happens, they need to act fast. Catching Fire has a tentative release date of November 2013 and will need to start filming very soon if they want to get some footage in with their star Jennifer Lawrence. Pretty soon Fox will exercise their option on Lawrence and take her to film the sequel for X-Men: First Class. If this does happen, it could put things on hold for a while for Catc…

Doctor Who 16-Bit RPG! [video]

Fans of the British sci-fi show Doctor Who have wanted a good video game for the show for some time. Well their wishes have been answered! Sort of. The minds over at College Humor have created a games that can be played on the "BBCNES" and carries our favorite Timelord through seasons 5 and 6 of the current series. One of the best parts of the game is that it has found a way to be less confusing for fans trying to understand the intermingled plot lines. Instead of diving deep into the "Why" and "How" of situations, a banner stating "TIME TRAVEL" or "WIBBLY-WOBBLY, TIMEY-WIMEY STUFF" comes across the screen and moves the story along! Check out the video and see if you would be interested in this Doctor Who 16-bit RPG.

Enjoy! (*Spoilers if you have not seen season 5-6 of Doctor Who.)

First clip from The Avengers features Black Widow

Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow certainly knows how to kick some ass and in its first official clip Marvel shows us a scene from The Avengers where she does just that. The clip is 43 seconds long and shows us our expert assassin, Natasha Romanoff, in a tight spot while on the phone with Agent Coulson back at S.H.I.E.L.D. Headquarters. Business is business as she gets out of the situation with some stunning style.

The Avengers will hit theaters on May 4, 2012.

Target's The (Tiny) Avengers commercial

We have all had the experience of being a little kid and slipping on a super hero mask and feeling like we have really become that super hero. In their new commercial, Target has teamed up with The Avengers to show us how a small group of friends experience this exact feeling. Watch and enjoy as these tiny Avengers stand their ground against the villainous Loki!

Dalek Relaxation Tape

The Daleks have always been the Doctor's biggest enemy on the show Doctor Who but recently the Daleks have had some time to relax. Doctor Who show runner Steven Moffat had given them some time off during Season 6 and they did not appear in a single episode. The big question was then "How would the Daleks spend their free time if not trying to kill the Doctor?" It appears that at least one Dalek had found a career in creating new-age relaxation tapes. The result is truly ... tranquil? Be sure to watch/listen to the very end.

This 1 minute 52 second clip comes from Peter Serafinowicz's BBC 6 Music Radio Show which aired on Saturday, March 31, 2012.

The Hunger Games Parody by The Hillywood Show

There have been a lot of Hunger Games parodies that have wound up on the net but The Hillywood Show's parody is the first to be done that really captures the essence of the movie while still being funny. For their video, the Hindi sisters (the brains behind The Hillywood Show) focused on the interviews with Caesar Flickerman before the actual games. Taking on the larger than life Caesar Flickerman is Hilly Hindi while the girl on fire, Katniss Everdeen, is portrayed by her sister Hannah Hindi. The other district tributes and backup dancers join them on stage as the video progresses.

The Hindi sisters adapted Jimmy James' "Fashionista" as the video's song and changed some lyrics to include "Hunger Games" into the chorus. The video along with the song very cleverly captures the lavishness of the Capitol, while still paying tribute to the film.
Enjoy the Hillywood Show's Hunger Games Parody below. I've also posted the 'Making of' video…

Matt Smith and Karen Gillan pose with their all-time favorite Dalek

The BBC had recently revealed that not only will the Daleks be returning for the seventh season of Doctor Who but that all models of Daleks will be returning. This news excited fans in a way that only the Daleks could; happy, anticipated fear. Now things have gone one step further with show runner Steven Moffat tweeting a photo of Matt Smith and Karen Gillan standing alongside their now confirmed favorite Dalek of all time - the original 1960's Dalek! This photo is all kinds of amazing! I cannot wait to see this episode!

Total Recall (2012) trailer

The first official trailer for the Total Recall remake starring Colin Ferrel has been released and it doesn't look too bad. Although, if you are looking for a straight remake of the Schwarzenegger classic from 1990, then you may be a little disappointed. It's already been revealed that there are some some big plot changes for this film and besides it looking 'darker' (as is the new trend for remakes) it seems as though this new film will be set on Earth rather than Mars like the original. While watching the trailer you may see some strong Blade Runner, Minority Report and Bourne influences. This of course is not a bad thing but it feels a little familiar. It is a little early to tell which way this movie will go but it looks like it will be on the good side. What do you guys think?

Total Recall will hit theaters on  August 3, 2012.
