Mondo reveals poster series for The Lord of the Rings starting with Return of the King!

Mondo posters have become a very big collectors item due to their beauty and detail to the source material that they are portraying. Recently in Austin, Texas Mondo held a mystery screening where attendees would get to see a random movie and a poster print of the movie they just saw. One of the movies shown in Austin was The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King and the accompanying poster is truly breath taking. This piece of art was created by artist Aaron Horkey. Below you can see the two versions of the piece which feature an eagle taking on on the the Nazgul's fell beasts. This will be the first poster in a series for The Lord of the Rings.

Would you be interested in owning a piece such as this? What do you think of the art work?

Amazing fan art shows us Spider-Man redesigned for the steampunk era!

Spider-Man has taken many appearances and been in my time eras but artist Denis Medri is now taking Spider-Man back to the "steampunk era" with his new set of fan art photos. Personally, I feel that this set is well designed and the concepts fit perfectly. I am really enjoying them! I can only hope that Medri creates a few more characters for fans to enjoy!

Superman short Bizzaro Classic will capture fans! [video]

Back in February of 2011 I shared the Superman short Superman Classic with you by veteran Disney animator Robb Pratt. Robb has released another short in the Superman Classic series titled Bizzaro Classic. This time the short features Superman's mirrored image villain Bizzaro. Just like in his last video, Robb takes a few moments after the short to fill you in on the creation process that went into making the video.

This particular short consisted of over 2000 drawings from start to finish and still perfectly captures Max Fleischer's classic feel from his 1940's cartoon series. John Netwon (TV's Superboy in the 1980's) came back to voice Clark Kent/Superman and Bizzaro while his wife, Jennifer Newton, also came back to voice Lois Lane. As Pratt notes at the end of his video, if you enjoyed the short be sure to rate and comment! If he gets enough positive feedback he'll be glad to make more!

Red Ranger transformed for Comic-Con!

Artist David Rapoza and Acme Limited will be bringing this powerful Red Ranger art piece to San Diego Comic Con to sell at their booth. The piece makes the Red Ranger look like a badass and if they made movies for the Rangers that looked like this, they would definitely make money. If you stop by Acme's booth you can purchase a lithograph for $30 or a signed canvas piece for $350. What do you think? Does the Red Ranger look better suited to modern times now?

Concept art for The Amazing Spider-Man's suit

Early concept art has been surfacing for Spider-Man's suit for The Amazing Spider-Man and some of them have some very interesting takes on how the wall crawler should have looked. The pieces were created by concept artists Eddie Yang and Aaron Sims. Take a look below and see what you think may have worked or what you are glad was dropped to the art room floor.

I really enjoy Eddie Yang's designed and really like design 1 and 4 but I feel the eyes on the suits take away from the Spider-Man feel. With proper eyes I feel those two could have looked really cool. Also, design #4 has a Spider-Man 2099 feel with the "web cape".

Aaron Sims has some interesting designs as well. Although his first design misses the mark since it's way too similar to Raimi's Spider-Man and looks like a little kid made it (and is wearing it). His other designs are very cool though. I particularly like #4 with the straight blue and webbed red with the large spider logo.

Disney releases a teaser poster for Oz: The Great and Powerful

Disney has just released the first official teaser poster for the upcoming Oz: The Great and Powerful which will be directed by Sam Raimi. Raimi's visit to Oz will be a prequel that will follow the "wizard's" storyline and how he became known as "The Wizard of Oz".

Movie Synopsis:
"James Franco stars as Oscar Diggs in “Oz: The Great and Powerful.” The movie traces the character’s journey from a small-town circus magician in Kansas – some might say charlatan – to the great wizard of Oz.

After Oscar is transported to Oz, he meets three witches Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams) who suspect he is not the powerful wizard whose arrival has been foretold. As Oscar gets caught up in Oz's problems, he needs to transform himself into the great wizard the land needs...and into a better man." The poster below teases the darker tone of the film while still showing us some iconic images such as the yellow bri…

The Many Lives of Spider-Man [infographic]

One of the main reasons some people find it difficult to get into comics is that is is hard to follow all of the different story lines. This certainly holds true for the character of Spider-Man. Since his creation in 1962, Spider-Man has been reinvented several different times and had his story slightly altered each time. Whether it was a change in his age, his parents' story, or his abilities, there was always something slightly different in each incarnation of the character. To simplify things a little bit Buzzfeed has created this great infographic that breaks down several different storylines and signifies what the changes were. At first glance it may seem overwhelming but just choose a Spider-Man along the outside of the infographic and follow the colored lines to see the specific story element that belongs to him. This is very well done! I'm just surprised to not see the 1994 FOX series Spidey on here.

Review - The Amazing Spider-Man

*Possible spoilers ahead

The Amazing Spider-Man has officially swung into theaters and initial reports are that it is a hit. However, is this just the outcry from Spidey fans excited to see him on the big screen again or does the film actually stand up to it’s hype? Spider-Man fans, whether new or old, will have been happy that they have seen this movie. The movie does a great job at delivering all the necessary items on the Spider-Man check list.

As I just saw the movie a lot of it is still sinking in, but let’s take a closer look.

Andrew Garfield perfectly portrays the character of Peter Parker. Not only does this 28 year old pull off the look and awkwardness of a high school student but he breathes comic life into the character that wasn’t fully there with Toby Maguire. From his body type to the messy, spiky hair, Garfield looks like he was pulled straight from the comics. I also found that Garfield’s Peter Parker/Spider-Man is much more relatable than Toby Maguire’s. There is more t…

J.K. Rowling's new book cover is revealed!

Since the end of the Harry Potter series, fans have been anxiously awaiting J.K. Rowling's next book. Back in February fans were given the joyous news that they would soon see their wish of a new book come true. Though after this announcement information on the book was sparse. Rowling had been doing a very good job at keeping everything a secret (which to fans comes to no surprise with everything she managed to keep secret with the Harry Potter series).

However, today the Little, Brown Book Group (publisher of Rowling's new book) released the official cover to Rowling's upcoming book The Casual Vacancy. Red with yellow trim the cover takes a more traditional style look with what appears to be an X'ed out voting ballot. The book is confirmed to have a page count of 512 which is a decent sized book for those looking to sink their teeth into this new tale.

Book synopsis:
"When Barry Fairbrother dies in his early forties, the town of Pagford is left in shock.

Harrey Podder: Say the Magic Word [video]

Here is another great animated piece from David Stodolny. This piece features the characters from the magical world of Harry Potter and is titled Harrey Podder: Say the Magic Word.  This video took Stodolny 3 months to complete but I would say that the time and hard work was well worth it.
In this video you see Harry and company trying out their spells with ... mixed results. Take a look and watch the hilarious mishaps that go hand in hand with learning magic.

Doctor Who spoof Inspector Spacetime from Community gets a spin off web series! [video]

Doctor Who and Community fans get ready to rejoice! The Doctor Who parody known as Inspector Spacetime on the hit show Community is getting its very own spin off web series! For legal reasons the web series cannot be called Inspector Spacetime and will have its own original stories but the source material is quite clear to fans. The series was given a rather long (and yet still comical) name; Untitled Web Series About a Space Traveler Who Can Also Travel Through Time. The parody web series will star Travis Richey, be directed by Vince Talenti and was written by Richey and Eric Loya.

Here's the official description:
"In this six-episode web series, the Inspector and his faithful associate Piper Tate encounter the Inspector's arch-nemesis, Boyish the Extraordinary!!" Faithful companion Piper Tate?? You know they'll reveal her middle name to be Agyeman. (Former Doctor Who companion actresses being Billy Piper, Freema Agyeman, and Catherine Tate.) However this turns …

Two great ninja clans face off - The Hand vs The Foot

This brilliant piece of fan art was created by Deviant Art user 'ddbirdman'. It features two well known ninja clans; The Hand and The Foot. As a little background, The Hand are from the Marvel universe and are an order of evil mystical ninjas who are heavily involved with organized crime and mercenary work who serve The Beast. The Foot Clan is a ninjutsu clan in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles universe and is also heavily involved with organized crime and practice black magic who serve Shredder.

The great thing about this piece of art is that The Foot were created as a parody of The Hand, so it is great to see the two clans fighting each other. Lastly, in great artistic irony, The Hand ninja is fighting with his foot while The Foot ninja is fighting with his hand. Fantastic!

Everyday Hulk: In The Bathroom [video]

We all know that Bruce Banner must do a good job at keeping himself calm otherwise the Hulk would be destroying everything all the time. But what happens when Bruce is in the bathroom and runs out of toilet paper? We've all been there and we've all gotten mad about it. But what what happens in the Banner household?

This great piece of animation was entirely created by David Stodolny in just 5 days! The video is extremely funny and Stodolny has a great animation style. Stodolny has had the chance to work on several big scren films such as Open Season, Surf's Up, I Am Legend, Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs, and How To Train Your Dragon, Kung Fu Panda 2, and Puss In Boots.

At 56 seconds, this video is a quick watch that will certainly have you laughing. Enjoy!
