Doctor Who fans support Matt Smith in Olympic torch relay

This morning, British actor Matt Smith who plays 'the Doctor' on the sci-fi series Doctor Who completed his leg of the Olympic torch relay through Cardiff. Before the relay Matt Smith was interviewed by the BBC where he stated that, "it is a great privilege to be involved," and "it's one of those rare sort of opportunities that have nothing to do with me and everything to do with the fact that I played the Doctor on Doctor Who." He goes on to say that running the flame will be an experience that he will remember for the rest of his life.

When I reported that Matt Smith will carry the Olympic torch I had mentioned how the BBC would be streaming it LIVE via their website. I want to apologize to any of my readers who stayed up to watch the LIVE feed since it turned out that the BBC had completely missed Matt's leg of the torch relay in their feed. It was a horrible shock to myself and many viewers waiting to see him with the torch when the third runn…

Doctor Who star, Matt Smith, will carry the Olympic torch!

The BBC officially announced today that actor Matt Smith from Doctor Who will carry the Olympic torch during the torch relay on Saturday, May 26, 2012.
"Matt has been given the honour of being named the lead runner for Saturday, 26 May. This means he is the first to carry the Torch on that day and will convey the Olympic Flame through part of Cardiff, close to BBC Wales’ Roath Lock Studios – the home of Doctor Who.

Matt was delighted to take part in this world-famous tradition. ‘To carry the Torch is an honour, one I thought I'd never get,’ he told us, adding, ‘I'm very excited!’
Matt’s run will begin at approximately 6.20am by the Norwegian Church Arts Centre in Cardiff (details below). He will wear the official Torch Bearer uniform and carry the Flame for a short leg of the journey before handing it to the next runner on the steps of the Senedd, often known as the Welsh Assembly Building." The BBC is providing fans with a live feed of the torch relay…

Doctor Who mini episode - Good as Gold

The BBC and Blue Peter has given us our newest Doctor Who adventure and this time it was written by three elementary school students!
"Back in January, BBC Learning in collaboration with Blue Peter announced this year’s Script to Screen competition. Launched by the Doctor himself, the challenge was simple. Schoolchildren aged 9-11 should write a short Olympics-themed script full of the usual Doctor Who ingredients including humour, drama and a touch of magic!" The winning contest entry was submitted by 3 girls from Ashdene Primary School in Wilmslow.  The mini-episode is titled "Good as Gold" and stars Matt Smith as the Doctor and Karen Gillan as Amy Pond. Feedback on this mini-episode has been mixed but please remember that this was written by three girls between the ages of 9-11! It is meant to be light and fun and fans shouldn't be so critically hard on it. I won't spoil the 3 minute video so I'll let you watch and enjoy!

Disney characters enter the Hunger Games!

The world of Disney has been transformed into the futuristic nation of Panem and the tributes for the Hunger Games have been chosen! Each set of tributes greatly represents a district from Panem (the nation in The Hunger Games) and there are definitely some strong competitors among them. Winners would depend on the arena but lets use a generic arena to figure out who would come out on top. Which team do you think would walk out alive if we were able to have a team victory as opposed to a single victor?

My top 4 teams (using a generic arena): Hercules/MegaraShang/MulanBeast/BelleJohn Smith/Pocahontas *Click to enlarge photo!

England is Awesome - Pop culture poster combines all of England's best icons!

Tom Preston has created this fun piece of fan art titled "England is Awesome" that depicts everything that pop culture loves about England. I haven't been to England myself (yet) but I can only imagine that this is exactly what it looks like on the streets on an average day. Below the photo I count off 23 different references seen in this photo. See if you can identify them all before taking a look.

Potted Potter invades Manhattan - My review of the 2 man Harry Potter show!

Potted Potter is a two man show that is taking the world by storm. The show started it’s run in London and most recently was in Toronto. Now Potted Potter is looking to make a big impact in New York City. The show is a parody play that retells all seven Harry Potter books in 70 minutes. You may think that this is an awfully short time to retell all seven Harry Potter books, but Daniel Clarkson and Jefferson Turner, the creative minds behind the show, deliver an experience that you will not forget.

I was lucky enough to attend the first preview show in New York City on Saturday, May 19th at the Little Shubert Theater with some great friends from The Group That Shall Not Be Named (TGTSNBN), NYC’s Harry Potter Meetup group. Being such great big fans we attended the show in cosplay and the crowd waiting to get into the theater loved it. (I dressed in my Half Blood Prince Gryffindor quidditch try-out robes)
Potted Potter is written and performed by two-time Olivier Award-nominated actors Da…

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time bedtime story

Geeks who go on to have children of their own will inherently pass along some of their "geekness" to them. Whether it be by telling stories or sharing movies or whatever other means they see fit. But this particular video shows Kyle Hilliard from Game Informer sharing the tale of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time to his newborn baby girl as a bedtime story.

Let's not nitpick at the mistakes that Kyle may or may not have made in his retelling. Instead, let's focus on how cute this video is and that this baby girl has some pretty awesome decor in her room (Triforce blanket, Portal mirrors, ect). I can also say that this will definitely be me at some point in my future.

Darth Vader vs Gandalf - Super Power Beat Down

No matter who the fan is, at one point you have always wondered who would win in a fight from your two favorite franchises. If the planets could align and allow the ultimate crossover, who would win in a fight, favorite character number 1 or favorite character number 2? That's exactly what the web series Super Power Beat Down is looking to show its fans.
This particular episode pits the Dark Lord of the Sith, Darth Vader, against the Istari wizard, Gandalf! To decide the winner Super Power Beat Down created on online poll to see who the fans would think would win in the fight. So you only have each other to blame for any unfavorable results. The episode has a strong Deadliest Warrior feel to it. The special effects and fighting were all incredibly done and the episode is definitely fun to watch. Enjoy! And be sure to stay tuned for next month's match-up; Batman vs Wolverine! (My money is on Wolverine!)

Who will win: Darth Vader or Gandalf?

First look at Michonne from The Walking Dead

The Walking Dead teased its fans in the closing moments by introducing a new character that was hooded, weilding a samurai sword, and had two limbless zombies in tow. Fans of the comics instantly knew who this character was but were just as eager as the non-comic readers to get a glimpse at what this character would actually look like. Fans of the comics and the show need not wait any longer. AMC has unveiled the first official photo of Danai Gurira as the badass zombie slayer, Michonne.
The second question most fans want answered is, "Will her character be like the comics or will she be changed at all?" In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Robert Kirkman (Comic creator and executive producer of the show) had this to say concerning Michonne:
“The essence of the character — her personality, her motives, everything that makes Michonne Michonne — remains intact from the comics,” says Robert Kirkman (the creator of the comic and executive producer of the TV adaptation)…

Pick on someone your own size, Mario - No More Bullying

Here is another great piece of fan art by blogger JuanmaUrbina. This particular piece is titled 'No More Bullying' and features some poor Koopa Troopers being bullied by that nasty plumber, Mario. Well, what's a Koopa Trooper to do but get some help from a friend, right? Enter the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles...

The Walking Dead Season 3 sneak peek video

Season 2 of The Walking Dead left our group breaking at the seams and seeking a new home. It ended with the episode that the fans had been waiting for. Not only were there zombies everywhere you looked, but the excitement in general kept us on our feet and had us hooked to every second of the show. Now it may be hard to believe but the cast of The Walking Dead is promising a 3rd season that will be bigger and better than anything we have seen so far. AMC has released a behind-the-scenes look at the filming of season 3 which has just gone underway. Watch as the cast and crew give their personal thoughts of this upcoming season.

*Mildest of spoilers in video. Character and Setting (both shown in Season 2 finale) are named.

Gamers! This is what a gaming room looks like!

We all like to brag to our friends that we have the best video game setup at our house. But one man has stepped forward and claimed that title without question. Pete, aka 16bitghost, has a gaming set up that houses consoles and hand helds that range from the classic era of gaming all the way to the modern era we know today. It is by far the most impressive setup I have seen. Below are two photos of the room and an extensive video tour of his entire setup.

Here is a video tour of this amazing gaming room
