The Fan Who Waited - My experience at the Doctor Who Season 7 NYC Premiere!

With the approaching 7th season of Doctor Who, fans in and around NYC waited on pins and needles to get news of whether or not there would be a premiere with the cast as there has been for the past two years. BBC America kept us waiting but finally they had revealed that there certainly would be a premiere in the city but this time tickets would be sold online for $1.11 (2 per customer) instead of it being first come first serve as it has in the past. It may not have been entirely BBC America’s fault but the resulting scramble to get tickets on release day would turn out to be a fiasco and would ultimately leave many die hard fans of the show without tickets and very upset. Servers crashed, sites froze and gave errors, and fans everywhere were left shouting at their computers and asking anyone they knew if they were able to buy any extra tickets.

I too was one of those fans who got caught in the scramble and was left without tickets. However, I was lucky enough to have a friend give me…

The Hobbit's second installment gets a new title while the third gets a release date!

Now that news the news that The Hobbit will officially be a trilogy is out fans have been anxiously awaiting the third film's title and release date. Well fans, the wait is now over!

The titles have been swapped a bit. The first film will be The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. The second film will now be titled The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. Lastly, the third film will be titled The Hobbit: There and Back Again and will be released on July 18, 2014.
"Warner Bros. president of domestic distribution Dan Fellman said, “We wanted to have a shorter gap between the second and third films. Opening in July affords us not only the perfect summer tentpole, but fans will have less time to wait for the finale of this epic adventure.”" Now that the new title has been officially released, what do you think of it?

All-Star Celebrity Bowling - Team Nerdist vs Team Doctor Who from San Diego Comic Con! [video]

While at San Diego Comic Con, Chris Hardwick (aka: The Nerdist)was able to put together a celebrity bowling match between some of this friends and the cast of Doctor Who. Team Nerdist consisted of Chris Hardwick (Founder), Wil Wheaton (Uber Geek, Fez Enthusiast), Alex Albrecht (Host, 4 Points), and Chloe Dykstra (Host, Just Cos). Team Doctor Who consisted of Matt Smith (The Doctor), Karen Gillan (Amy Pond), Arthur Darvill (Rory Williams), and Steven Moffat (Lead Writer and Executive Producer).
I had heard Chris talk several times about the events that happened during this match but it is definitely fun to finally see it. By far my favorite part is the complete unorthodox way that Karen Gillan bowled yet somehow managed to be one of the best bowlers of the match. It was so funny seeing everyone's reaction (including her own!) after each time she bowled. The video is 12 minutes long and a lot of fun. Enjoy!

A new team forms for the Justice League of America in 2013!

DC revealed at FanExpo Canada that there will be a new Justice League of America comic with an all new team. The new comic will launch in 2013 and will be written by Geoff Johns and drawn by David Finch.
""This is a very different kind of team book,” says Geoff Johns. “On first glance, people might think the heroes of the JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA stand in the shadows of Superman, Wonder Woman and the rest of the JUSTICE LEAGUE, but Green Arrow, Katana, Martian Manhunter, the new Green Lantern, Stargirl, Vibe, Hawkman and Catwoman thrive in the shadows. They're underdogs who have everything to prove and something to lose. They're a team of unlikely heroes who will help one another discover they're as A-List as anybody -- yes, even Vibe. Though getting there won't be easy. Why they're formed, why each member joins, what they're after and who the society of villains is they're trying to take apart will all be clear in the first issue whe…

Doctor Who - Pond Life - Part 5 [video]

The fifth and final installment of the Doctor Who season 7 prequel Pond Life is finally here and it really closes everything up nicely. I was able to attend the NYC Doctor Who premiere last Saturday and saw Asylum of the Daleks so I can say (without spoilers) that this last part leads into the first episode very nicely. Part 5 is one of the longer parts at 1 minute 34 seconds and carries an emotional toll with it as well. Enjoy!

Overall, I really enjoyed Pond Life. I personally thought that Parts 3-5 were a little more solid than the first two since they focused more on the Ponds themselves. I would have liked to have seen the parts be a little longer but I'll take what I can get. Pond Life had a good balance between humor and emotion and it was definitely nice to get a small glimpse of what life was like for Amy and Rory in between season 6 and 7.

How did you feel about this 5 part mini-series? Like it? Love it? Thought it could be a little longer? Let me know in the comments!

The Dark Knight meets The Avengers [video]

Ever wonder what would happen if the heroes of the Avengers tried to bring over the Dark Knight to fight along side them? College Humor has created a brilliant video that answers just that! The video features the charismatic team of heroes from The Avengers and the melodramatic Batman from The Dark Knight. The end result is two clashing styles that will truly make you laugh. I do not want to spoil anything so without further ado, I present "The Dark Knight meets The Avengers".

Fan-made Doctor Who trailer for The Angels Take Manhattan will give you chills! [video]

One excited Doctor Who fan has created a beautiful teaser trailer for the season 7 episode that will mark the end of the Ponds forever; The Angels take Manhattan. The trailer is well made and it definitely gave me chills as I watched. If you are caught up to date on the current series of Doctor Who then there is no spoiler footage used. Again, this is fan made and not an official BBC trailer for The Angels Take Manhattan.
"The Doctor stole their childhood. He stole their hearts. He tried to save them. Then the Angels came. And stole them forever." Enjoy!

Teaser photo for Avengers vs X-Men #12 marks the return of a special character!

*Possible spoilers Ahead

Marvel's Avengers vs X-Men has been a smash hit with fans and it is being said that the series will lead into a Marvel universe that will be changed forever. Although details have been hidden very well, Marvel has released a teaser image that is sure to get fans talking.

Here is the teaser image for the last issue of Avengers vs X-Men, issue #12:

The obvious first thought from any fan is that Jean Grey is finally coming back and she'll be returning as the Dark Phoenix. However, would Marvel blatantly give away such a big plot point in a teaser photo? We haven't seen Jean Grey since her death in 2005 so this return has been anticipated by fans for quite some time. But what if this is not Jean Grey. It could be her daughter Hope Summers who has been a pivotal character in this series. Who do you think could be in this photo and what do you think the return of the Dark Phoenix could mean for the Marvel universe?

The Hob-Bot (Hobbit Action!) What if a Hobbit returned from the future to help Frodo? [video]

When bringing the One Ring to Mordor, Frodo required the Fellowship to guide and protect him in his journey. But if he had just been friends with this particular Hobbit then he would have been perfectly fine on his journey. Check out this video titled 'The Hob-Bot (Hobbit Action!)' by patrickhwillems which crosses Lord of the Rings and The Terminator.

The Avengers deleted scene features Captain America out of his time and an alternate Stan Lee cameo! [video]

Another deleted scene from The Avengers has surfaced and it is a great one! Not only does this scene add emotional depth to the character of Steve Rogers/Captain America but it gives us an alternate cameo appearance by Stan Lee. The scene shows us Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) as he struggles to fit into the world that left him behind.

What do you think? Think this emotional scene should have made it into the final cut of the movie? Do you think it adds anything to the character of Steve Rogers/Captain America?

The Avengers will be released on DVD and Blu-ray on September 25, 2012.

First clip from Batman: The Dark Knight Returns! [video]

The film adaptation of Frank Miller's Batman: The Dark Knight Returns won't be released until the end of September but fans can now get a glimpse of the first official clip.

The first clip shows us Batman's first reappearance since he has retired and even the Gotham police department seems to be excited at seeing him. Though this is a short clip it appears that this adaptation will be faithful to the 1986 comic. They even put the classic comic cover into it which we can see here in this clip (Batman jumping through the sky with the lightning striking behind him).

The official synopsis states:
It's been a decade since Bruce Wayne hung up his cape, following most of the other superheroes who had been forced into retirement. Facing the downside of middle age, a restless Bruce Wayne pacifies his frustration with race cars and liquor - but the bat still beckons as he watches his city fall prey to gangs of barbaric criminals known as The Mutants. The movie is voiced by …

Doctor Who season 7 episode posters!

We are only 3 days away from the season premiere of the seventh season of Doctor Who and fans are being treated to something extra special! Although they were not supposed to be revealed until tomorrow, BBC posters for each of the first five episodes of the new season have been revealed that will excite fans who are already shaking with anticipation.

Below you can take a look at the five show posters and try to dissect what each means and represents. I think the two most intriguing are from The Power of Three and The Angels Take Manhattan. The Power of Three could be referring to so much and what are those little boxes that they are holding? Lastly, with a name like The Angels Take Manhattan we are clearly going to see multiple angels and Amy and Rory suspiciously look like Angels themselves here with the color being faded from them. Then you have the Doctor half hiding his face. What could it all mean?

What do you think of these posters? Which are your favorite? These posters give …

Doctor Who - Pond Life - Part 3 [video]

The third installment of the Doctor Who prequel Pond Life has been posted by the BBC and it's starting to get a little more on track as to what fans were expecting. The video is still rather short at 55 seconds but at least this time the video focuses on our favorite married couple. I think it's interesting that each video is a different month. Check out what happens when the Ponds get up in the morning and try to use the restroom.

"Ood on the loo." What a great line. Hey, when you gotta go, you gotta go! But seriously, how nice is that Ood? He gets walked in on and he doesnt ask for privacy, he just asks if he can be of assistance. If you'd like you can now follow this particular Ood on Twitter @Oodontheloo.

Trailer for new Star Wars CG animated comedy Star Wars: Detours [video]

The creative minds behind Robot Chicken, Seth Green and Matt Senreich, are releasing a new CG animated Star Wars show titled Star Wars: Detours. The series will take place between Episode III and IV and appears to be a completely hilarious comedy.
The characters are overly animated but fans will still find the characters to be very funny.
"Star Wars Detours™ is an animated comedy that explores what daily life is like in a galaxy far, far away. There are no Empires striking back or attacking clones here. Instead, Star Wars Detours focuses on the universe's regular folks and their everyday problems... which, to be fair, do frequently involve famous bounty hunters, crazed Ewoks, and even a Dark Lord of the Sith. Welcome to Star Wars: Detours: the other side of the stars, between the wars." Watch the trailer for Star Wars: Detours below!

The Avengers alternate opening sequence! [video]

The Blu-ray release of The Avengers is fast approaching and the extra features just keep getting better and better! Take a look at this deleted scene that is an alternate opening scene that would have definitely given the movie a different tone right from the start.

The scene features S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Maria Hill (Colbie Smulders) being interrogated about the events that have just unfolded (which actually turn out to be the events that unfold at the end of the film). In this scene we see Maria Hill give her true feeling about Nick Fury and his team of Avengers. Had we seen this scene it would have given her character a little more depth and would have been a really interesting way to open the movie. We've all seen the "the beginning is the end" opening before, but in this case it changes the viewpoint of a certain character that could have benefited that character's depth.

Take a look at the scene and let me know what you think!

Doctor Who - Pond Life - Part 2 [video]

It appears that the TARDIS' Helmic Regulator is still malfunctioning in the second episode of the Doctor Who prequel Pond Life. This second episode is a little longer than the first but only by 20 seconds making it 1 minute 13 seconds in total.
So far Pond Life isn't exactly what I was expecting but it is still funny to see the Doctor popping in and out of the Pond's every day life. But I would like to see more of the Ponds in Pond Life. In an earlier interview, Arthur Darvill stated that Pond Life will lead directly into the first episode of Doctor Who's 7th season. So it'll be interesting how all this will lead smoothly into the first scenes of the new episode. Without further ado, I present Part 2 of Pond Life!

Doctor Who - Pond Life - Part 1 [video]

Since the announcement a few days ago fans have been curious to see the new Doctor Who prequel mini-series titled Pond Life. The series will have 5 parts and will air every day this week leading up to the Doctor Who Season 7 premiere this Saturday at 9pm. Unfortunately, the first part to this mini-series is a little shorter than fans were expecting (at 54 seconds) but it still shows us some pretty interesting scenes. "Pond Life is the new 5 part mini-adventure, with a new part every day, featuring the Doctor, Amy, Rory and some surprise familiar faces! En route to visit the Ponds the TARDIS' Helmic Regulator malfunctions, leaving the Doctor popping up everywhere in time and space. Will he ever make it back to them?" Enjoy Part 1 of Pond Life!
