Amazon confirms their upcoming The Lord of the Rings series will be set in the Second Age with an updated map.

Amazon has been teasing fans about their upcoming The Lord of the Rings series with map updates but it today's update that was the most exciting. A new map was posted with the caption, “One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all, and in the darkness bind them, In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.” Fans of course know this as the inscription in the One Ring but the map itself revealed the sea of Belegaer and the island of Numenor. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Second Age!

As though the inclusion of Numenor wasn't confirmation enough, this new map was followed by another tweet confirming the setting of the Second Age of Middle Earth:

Without geeking out too hard, let's take a look at the island of Numenor. Numenor was a kingdom of Men in the Second Age. The island was brought out of the sea by the Valar and was given to the Numenoreans. It was a peaceful island and the inhabitants were forbidden to sail west by the Valar as the Valar feareed that they would come upon the Undying Lands where no mortal men were allowed to go. Eventually the Numenoreans began to dislike the Valar because of this and so decided instead to sail East and colonize the land found there, Middle Earth. The colonization became more hostile and violent and soon the Numenoreans had a great empire in Middle Earth. They would eventually be taken out by Sauron and the survivors of the empire's downfall would live on to create new kingdoms of Men; Armor and Gondor.

I don't know about you but this confirmation has me really excited. Are you excited to see this series be set in the Second Age? What aspects of the stories are you hoping make it into the series?
