Jamie Foxx is cast as Al Simmons / Spawn in the upcoming Spawn film.

It's happening folks! Although there was a little speculation about whether he would accept the role of not, it has been officially announced that actor Jamie Foxx has accepted the title role in the upcoming Spawn film. Foxx will play Al Simmons who eventually takes up the mantle of Spawn. Todd McFarlane who created the comic character is also signed on and will be writing and directing the film for Blumhouse Pictures. This will mark Todd McFarlane's directorial debut.

An interesting this about this film is that Spawn won't be the character at the core focus of the film. The focus is said to be on a cop named Twitch who has been in the comics since issue #1. Spawn will be woven in to the focus.

Speaking on the film he is looking to create, McFarlane stated,
"“If you want to see something creepy and powerful where you go, just what the hell was that? I’m not going to explain how Spawn does what he does; he is just going to do it. We’ll eventually do some of the background if we make a trilogy, but that’s not this first movie. The first movie is just saying, do you believe? And if you believe than that’s good because I’m hoping to take you for a long ride with this franchise.”"
Sounds like he has some interesting plans up his sleeve for this film. Are you excited to see Spawn back on the big screen? What do you think of the casting of Jamie Foxx as Spawn?

Spawn will be in theaters in 2019.
