X-Men spinoff film New Mutants casts Maisie Williams and Anya Taylor-Joy!

The X-Men spinoff film New Mutants is underway and has officially announced the casting for two of its lead characters. Game of Thrones' Maisie Williams and The Witch's Anya Taylor-Joy have been signed on to play Wolfsbane and Magik respectively. The film, which is slated to be released in 2018, is being directed by Josh Boone.

For those unfamiliar with New Mutants, it was launched in as the first X-Men spinoff comic in 1983 and was created by Chris Claremont and Bob McLeod.

Film synopsis:
"The pic will focus on the angst-driven adventures of a diverse group of teens that include Native American Danielle Moonstar, Scots girl Wolfsbane, Brazilian ladies man Sunspot, a Kentuckian code-named Cannonball and Russian teen Magik. Also in the mix will be an alien named Warlock. "

Maisie Williams is set to play the character Wolfsbane who is a girl struggling to reconcile her religious beliefs with her power to turn into a wolf. On the other hand you have Anya Taylor-Joy who will play Magik. Magik, the sister of the X-Men member Colossus, learns sorcery and uses teleportation discs to travel.

At the moment there are no other casting but it is being reported that Fox is, "making serious efforts to find ethnically appropriate actors, conducting wide searches for a Native American to play Moonstar and a South American for Sunspot." That is definitely great news.

Are you excited to see a new team of mutants on the big screen?

New Mutants has a release date of April 13, 2018.
