Sony confirms that Spider-Man will be Miles Morales in the upcoming stand alone animated film.
It has been long rumored by Sony put the rumors to rest today when they officially revealed that the Spider-Man that will be featured in the upcoming stand alone Spider-Man animated film will be Miles Morales. This doesn't come as a surprise as the Marvel Cinematic Universe is featuring Peter Parker as Spider-Man. This is a great opportunity for Sony to feature this fan favorite character. I'm excited to see Miles on the big screen even if it is only as an animated character. Never say never for a live action Miles sometime in the future.
Miles is a African American / Puerto Rican from Brooklyn, NY who receives his abilities when he is just 13 year old. However, he does not take up the mantle of Spider-Man until Peter Parker is killed in action and he feels guilty for not being there to help him. Miles Morales shares many of the same abilities as Peter Parker but also as a few unique ones that include the ability to camouflage and a venom sting that can paralyze his foes.

Sony has made it clear that this is a stand alone film that will not tie in to the Marvel Cinematic Universe or Spider-Man: Homecoming. This animated film will be directed by Bob Persichetti and Peter Ramsey.
This untitled Spider-Man animated film is set to be in theaters on December 21, 2018.
