JJ Abrams talks about why Kylo Ren idolizes Darth Vader.

*Spoilers for Star Wars: The Force Awakens*

Trailers and advertisements for Star Wars: The Force Awakens didn't hide the fact that the film's new villain Kylo Ren idolized Darth Vader but the film itself doesn't dive too deep into why that idolization is there.

Director J.J. Abrams spoke with IGN and delivered an explanation for this that fans may be interested to hear.
"“Kylo Ren idolizes Darth Vader, not Anakin Skywalker. He idolizes what Vader represents and what Vader was trying to do. And the idea that Vader didn’t succeed, if you look at it from Ren’s point of view, he was seduced by the enemy and failed because of that seduction. So the idea is that Ren wants to complete the thing that Vader started.”"
In the film it is revealed that Kylo Ren is really Ben Solo, Han and Leia's son and Darth Vader's grandson. Abrams takes a moment to talk about how Ben Solo, who was training under his uncle, Luke Skywalker, wound up turning to the Dark Side of the Force.

"“An incredible power, an incredible force, and incredible potential that was, like many young people, sort of misguided and unclear. And the story for him is one of conflict, not just internal conflict but external conflict. And it’s what makes him a rather interesting villain.”"
Does this look into who Kylo Ren is make you appreciate the character more?
