Official poster and synopsis reveal Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is the eighth Harry Potter story!

Pottermore has revealed the first official poster for the upcoming play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child (seen above) and it is quite interesting. It shows off a child huddled in a nest which has a pair of black wings sprouting from the back of it. Heavy on the symbolism?

What's more interesting is that Pottermore, J.K. Rowling's official Harry Potter site, has now revealed the official synopsis for the play and it is not what we expected.

Author J.K. Rowling endlessly told fans that this play "is not a prequel" and she was right. the upcoming play will in fact be a sequel to the book franchise taking place after the epilogue in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (which is set 19 years after the events in the story). It must be Albus that we see huddled in the nest in the official poster. Pottermore also revealed that The Cursed Child is officially the eighth story in the Potter franchise and gave it's synopsis.

Official synopsis:
"It was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn’t much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband and father of three school-age children.
While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places."

This is certainly a very interesting twist for the direction of the play and there is a lot of great stories that can be told about the self conscious boy who has to grow up in the shadow of the famous Harry Potter."

J.K. Rowling spoke about the play stating,
"‘The story only exists because the right group of people came together with a brilliant idea about how to present Harry Potter on stage. I’m confident that when audiences see Harry Potter and the Cursed Child they will understand why we chose to tell this story in this way.’"

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child will be presented at London’s West End theater during the summer of 2016 with tickets going on sale next Wednesday.

Fans have always wanted an eighth book but will this play stand in as a suitable substitute? What do you think about the news concerning the play? Are you excited to see a new story about Harry and his son Albus?
