BBC announces a new Doctor Who spinoff titled "Class".

The BBC has announced a new spinoff of their hit show Doctor Who and it may not be what fans were expecting. The new show will be titled Class and will be produced by Steven Moffat and Young Adult writer Patrick Ness, along with Brian Minchin. The show will have eight episodes with each one lasting 45 minutes. This new show will be centered around the student of Coal Hill School, where current companion, Clara Oswald, teaches. (Fans of the First Doctor will also recognize this as the school that Barbara and Ian worked at as well.)

Synopsis:
"Incredible dangers are breaking through the walls of time and space, and with darkness coming, London is unprotected. With all the action, heart and adrenalin of the best YA fiction (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Hunger Games), this is Coal Hill School and Doctor Who like you’ve never seen them before."

Speaking about bringing Ness on board, Steven Moffat stated,
"“No one has documented the dark and exhilarating world of the teenager like Patrick Ness, and now we're bringing his brilliant story-telling into Doctor Who. This is growing up in modern Britain - but with monsters!”"

Writer Patrick Ness spoke briefly on joining his first television series,
""I'm astounded and thrilled to be entering the Doctor Who universe, which is as vast as time and space itself. There's so much room there for all kinds of amazing stories, and to work with Steven Moffat and Brian Minchin to find a place to tell one of my own has been an absolute joy. I can't wait for people to meet the heroes of Class, to meet the all-new villains and aliens, to remember that the horrors of the darkest corners of existence are just about on par with having to pass your A-Levels.""
This new show will be airing on BBC Three and will start filming in 2016.

Many fans were disappointed to see that Torchwood still remains in sci-fi limbo but it seems that this new show, Class, will be taking the YA void that The Sarah Jane Adventures left behind. To be honest though, both previous spinoff shows had very strong connections to Doctor Who where as this new show seems to be just teenagers (who happen to be in the same TV universe) battling monsters or aliens. I am not so certain about this spinoff decision but I'll wait to give full judgement until more information comes out. At the moment though I think it sounds funny.

What do you think of this new series Class? Will you be watching?
