My Little Pony film will be made by Hasbro and Lionsgate!
Get ready, everypony! A My Little Pony film will soon be heading to the big screen! Hasbro has teamed up with Lionsgate to create an animated film based on the hit television show My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic. The show's writer/producer Meghan McCarthy will be writing the film while Jayson Theissen will be joining to direct.
The film is said to feature all new music and will have the series regulars, Tara Strong, Cathy Weseluck, Andrea Libman, Tabitha St. Germain, and Ashleigh Bal, will all be voicing their characters. Joining them will be actress Kristin Chenoweth to voice a brand new character in the film.
Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Co-President Erik Feig stated,
"“We are pleased to partner with Hasbro to bring their brands to audiences in new and exciting ways. Meghan McCarthy and the ‘My Little Pony’ cast are a very talented and cohesive team whom we’re happy to be working with and we’re excited about the addition of the very talented Kristin Chenoweth, as we explore new aspects of these characters and new story opportunities for the franchise.”"Adding to this statement, Stephen Davis, Chief Content Officer, Hasbro, Inc. said,
"“We are thrilled to expand the ‘My Little Pony’ story to the big screen, and take these beloved characters on a new and unexpected journey that will delight fans of all ages. It’s an honor to add Kristin Chenoweth to the cast as the voice of an all new, never-before-seen ‘My Little Pony’ character in the film. Her incredible Broadway and silver screen performances in 'Wicked,' 'Glee,' and many more make her the perfect fit for this animated, musical adventure.”"Film synopsis:
"In the movie, a new dark force threatens Ponyville, and the Mane 6 – Twilight Sparkle, Applejack, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy and Rarity – embark on an unforgettable journey beyond Equestria where they meet new friends and exciting challenges on a quest to use the magic of friendship and save their home."
With as dedicated as the My Little Pony fandom is, there's no doubt that when this film is released that it will be a hit. At the moment there is no tentative release date but one very interesting thing is that Lionsgate will distribute and market the film globally except in China. I'm curious as to why China would be excluded. Anyone know?
