A hero has fallen - tragedy strikes the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comics.

I grew up with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and have loved them ever since I was little. They are a group that has just always been there through various incarnations in shows, films, and comics. It is hard to imagine a world in which one of the Turtles would actually be defeated in battle where he dies.

In Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #44 one of the heroes falls in battle and it has fans scrambling for answers of whether this is really happening or if he will somehow pull through in the next issue.

"The series, by writers Tom Waltz and TMNT co-creator Kevin Eastman, has committed to being more grounded in order to harken back to the original series, and this violent development certainly keeps in line with that."

The comic is being written by Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles co-creator Kevin Eastman and Tom Waltz and has been getting better and better but this new twist is something that I did not see coming. If this sticks it will change the comic forever.

In a battle against Bebop and Rocksteady, Donatello was killed on the orders of Shredder.

"As for how it happened, Leonardo, Raphael, and Michelangelo were trying to stop Krang from terraforming the planet using the alien "Technodrome," leaving Donatello running command from their home base. Shredder had ordered Bebop and Rocksteady to kill Donatello if anything went wrong, and sure enough, something did. 

Donatello tried to fight them off, even getting some help from Metalhead (being controlled by scientist Harold Lillia), but the duo was too much. The killing blow came when Rocksteady smashed his shell with a sledgehammer."

Again, many fans are hoping that this is not a lasting thing, that Donatello will somehow come through this okay in the end. At the moment however it looks grim. When the Turtles return home, Angel Bridge, an ally of the Turtles and Casey Jones, tells them, "I swear, we tried to help him, Leo. But... But it was too late." We'll have to wait until the next issue to see where all this goes but for the moment it is a sad time to be a TMNT fan and a fan of Donatello.
