Nintendo and Netflix are looking to create a live action The Legend of Zelda series!

Nintendo fans have great reason to be excited today! It is being reported that Nintendo is currently in the development stage along with Netflix to bring one of their most popular video game franchises to the streaming service with an all new live action show; The Legend of Zelda!

As it stands right now, things are in the very early stages and are looking around for writers. The current word is that the The Legend of Zelda show will resemble shows and films such as Game of Thrones or The Lord of the Rings with a more family tone to it.

Like the games the series will be, "about an ordinary boy named Link who must rescue a princess named Zelda and save a fantasy world called Hyrule". At the moment information on the series is extremely limited and Nintendo and Netflix have not yet commented on the matter.

This would be a huge move for the gaming company. Although some fans may turn their heads at the idea of the game becoming a show, and thus having the hero, Link, talk (which he does not in the games), those same fans will surely tune in to watch. There was a short lived, one season cartoon in 1989 (where our hero Link did talk) that fans either love or love to hate but I wouldn't hold that as a comparison to what can be created today.

This is a project that needs to be handled with delicate care. Casting for this series will be difficult but I am sure Nintendo will take the proper steps to not have a flop on their hands (like the Super Mario Bros. film). Given that Netflix will be developing this closely with Nintendo, I am very interested to hear more news on it.

As a fan of the The Legend of Zelda series since the beginning in 1987, I am extremely excited about this and really hope that this goes through. First, Nintendo protects their properties very tightly these days and wouldn't let this be done incorecctly. Secondly, Netflix has been on a roll with their series lately and even landed some huge series with Marvel. I have confidence that combined, Nintendo and Netflix can pull this off and make it great. However, right now there is still the very real possibility that Nintendo and Netflix could kill off this idea before it gets any real traction but I am rooting for it to succeed.
