Testing out the new Star Wars: The Force Awakens cross guard lightsaber. Is it dangerous?

When the first trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens revealed the newest lightsaber to be wielded by a Sith, the fans were extremely split on how to feel. Some outwardly hated it and some saw the practical reasons for the new saber and embraced it. The newest lightsaber not only appears to be much longer than the older blades that we are used to and seemed to have a sort of flame look instead of the solid blade we have seen in the past, but also has two much shorter side blades that look like cross guards.

One of the biggest complaints of this new saber is that the cross guards would cut the wielder and therefore the saber is completely impractical. However, one dedicated weapons specialist has created a fantastic video that shows fans that it is completely possible to wield a cross guard lightsaber without injuring yourself.
"Thrand, Eldgrimr and Marquez devise a test to see if the new Cross-guard Lightsaber from the New Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens Official Teaser Trailer by J.J. Abrams is dangerous to the wielder or the opponent. They test the quillons or cross-guard out by covering it in thick paint and use it to see if it cuts the user or can be used as a weapon! They give credit to von Puch TV for giving them the idea as well. Be sure go by and check out von Puch's video channel and subscribe as well. So set back grab an Ale or Mead wile Thrand. Eldgrmr and Marquez test out the new cross-guarded Lightsaber to see how dangerous it really is and if it is to the wielder or the opponent!"
Check out the video below and see if you are convinced that a Sith would be able to wield the new lightsaber without any problems arising.
