Marvel announces that The Falcon will take over as Captain America!
On the heels of announcing that Thor would now be a woman, Marvel has made another big announcement but this time on The Colbert Report.
Creative Officer Joe Quesada appeared on the show and revealed to the world that Sam Wilson, aka The Falcon, would be taking over as Captain America.
The character of Steve Rogers recently lost his powers in his comic book written by Rick Remender so getting a new Captain America was inevitable. Having The Falcon take the role is a great choice and makes perfect sense. Movie audiences will recognize the character from Captain America: The Winter Soldier where actor Anthony Mackie played The Falcon.
Comic book fans will also realize that this isn't the first time that the name Captain America has gone to a new character. Recently, Bucky Barnes, aka The Winter Soldier, took over as Captain America when Steve Rogers was thought to be dead. It's also important to note that this is not the first black Captain America either. A character by the name of Isaiah Bradley also held the name. This Queens, NY native was experimented on while the super soldier serum was trying to be replicated. While it worked on Bradley it eventually severely damaged his mind and body.
An all new Captain America #1 will launch this fall with Sam Wilson as Captain America. Are you excited for this change up in the Captain's identity? Do you think that Marvel made the right choice in who should replace Steve Rogers?
