Harry Potter's Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them will be a trilogy!

Muggles will officially be traveling back to the wizarding world! It was recently announced that J.K. Rowling's 2001 mini book Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them would be turned into a motion picture. The NY Times went one step further by officially announcing that the film will actually be a trilogy! Get ready for three more movies set in Rowling magical world.

The book itself is a reproduction of a textbook owned by Harry Potter that was written by the the magizoologist Newt Scamander. (Magizoology is the study of magical creatures.) The films' main character will be the fictional author, Newt Scamander.

J.K. Rowling commented about how the project came together by stating,
“When I say he made Fantastic Beasts happen, it isn’t P.R.-speak but the literal truth. We had one dinner, a follow-up telephone call, and then I got out the rough draft that I’d thought was going to be an interesting bit of memorabilia for my kids and started rewriting!”
The films will not be a prequel or a sequel but instead will be a parallel story set in the same magical world. This new story will serve to expand the wizarding world. In fact, these films will be set 70 years before the event of the Harry Potter franchise and will start out in New York.

Within the book, there are 75 magical creatures described in detail that were found through world travels by Scamander himself. It would make most sense that this will be what the films will be about. New Scamander traveling the world and descovering, observing, and recording the magical creatures that he finds.

Now that the news is out and officially announced, are you excited about having a new Harry Potter film being made? How do you feel about it being a trilogy? Let me know in the comments.
