Ben Affleck is cast as the next Batman!

The internet exploded last night (as it does) when the announcement of the next actor to play Batman was made. It was recently announced that in the Man of Steel sequel that Superman and Batman would finally be meeting each other on the big screen. And the actor that they have chosen to be the next Batman for this role is ... Ben Affleck? That's right! Daredevil himself will be suiting up once more. (Alright, Daredevil wasn't completely his fault but he didn't help at all. At all.)

I am not happy about this casting and admit I have made my fair share of jokes and have laughed pretty hard in the last 12 hours (who hasn't). But I'll give Affleck a shot. Depending on the artist drawing the comic Affleck can certainly look the part of Bruce Wayne. I think the big thing that is a concern for me, and many fans out there, is Affleck's acting. Does he have the range and ability to pull off a role as badass as Batman? Affleck has proven himself to be a great filmmaker but his acting is still in question.

Furthermore, there is a lot more riding on this casting than just the "Batman" character. If Affleck doesn't do a great job he could ruin the next Superman movie. Then if everything is true and DC Comics is using Man of Steel as a building off point towards The Justice League one would assume that they would turn to Affleck for the next Batman film and The Justice League film. There is a lot of pressure with these new strings of superhero films. Recasting or a movie flop could hurt the DC franchise.

So what do you think of this casting for Batman? Are you happy or do you have someone else in mind for the Caped Crusader? Or do you think an unknown or up and coming actor would be better than a big name?

(You can now go back to making Matt Damon as Robin jokes.)
