Disney purchases Star Wars and announces new film by 2015!

The Sc-Fi community cried out in unison today as a huge announcement was made concerning the Star Wars franchise.

It's known that Disney just about owns everything on Earth (they even acquired certain Marvel rights recently) but with their recent announcement they now own everything going out to the Outer Rim territories. That's right, Disney has officially announced that they are purchasing LucasFilm, along with the Star Wars franchise, for  $4 billion. That means that Leia is now a Disney Princess! (The horror!) Disney didn't stop there though. They went on to announce that they will release a new Star Wars film, currently titled Star Wars: Episode 7, by 2015! From the title we can see that they are looking to have this film take place after Return of the Jedi and continue the Star Wars saga. It is being reported that George Lucas will be a part of these films as a "creative consultant" only and that Disney executive Kathleen Kennedy will be taking over the role of executive producer on the Star Wars films. After "Episode 7", Disney will look to continue the saga with more feature films and it's only a matter of time before they put Star Wars through the "Disney grinder" and look to milk it for all the money that it is worth.

This is truly troubling/interesting news for the Star Wars community and we can only hope that Disney treats the franchise with the care and faithfulness that it deserves. Granted, Disney did an amazing job with The Avengers but taking on Star Wars is a whole other thing. I hope this goes well.

"I have a bad feeling about this." -Han Solo
