Doctor Who gets multiple 50th Anniversary specials! But no full season until 2014?

Alright Doctor Who fans, get ready for a roller coaster of emotions. In the latest issue of Doctor Who magazine, Matt Smith talks about how there will not be a single 50th anniversary special for Doctor Who but multiple specials! Matt let it slip that Moffat's "first anniversary special" will be "as brilliant and as mental as you'd expect from Steven." This is potentially fantastic news!! As long as Moffat does something big for each of these specials fans should be extremely happy.

Let's take a look at the future of Doctor Who according to reported news. The first half of Season 7 will start off and end with the Ponds departing the TARDIS and Jenna-Louise Coleman stepping in as the new companion in December. In 2013 we will see the second half of Season 7 and then receive an undisclosed number of 50th anniversary specials as well as a documentary drama. Then in 2014 we will get to see Season 8. This is where our roller coaster takes its dive back to Earth. Will we really not have another full season until 2014? Depending on the number of anniversary specials this could be awful.

According to Matt Smith, Moffat has already pitched the idea of Season 8 to him and warned him that he should be ready to cry. We don't know any specifics on when Smith will be leaving the show but with words like that from Moffat, the fact that we could possibly be getting the answer to the first question (Doctor who?), as well as witnessing the "Fall of the Eleventh", it seems like the Eleventh Doctor's era could be coming to an end in 2014.
