Steven Moffat reveals teasers about Doctor Who's new companion!

Now that the new companion to the Doctor on Doctor Who has been cast and she has begun filming, fans are eagerly awaiting official news on who she is exactly.

It was reported that her name will be Clara but we have not been given a last name yet. Besides this, the companion is pretty much a mystery. However, Executive Producer Steven Moffat has offered up some teasers about the character's story on a recording for BBC Radio 5.
"The new companion will, again, be a human from contemporary earth. This is necessary for audience identification and a 'jumping on' point for new viewers
How the companion gets where she is and what that means for the character is what will make her utterly different and fascinating

The new companion will not have any links to any previous characters

Her 'journey' will be shocking and intriguing. The Doctor has never met anyone quite like her before

Her very presence in the TARDIS will change the Doctor and there's something different about her that will have a knock-on effect for the Doctor/companion dynamic"
This is some great insight into the Doctor's new companion and I cannot wait to see what kind of character she will turn out to be! The one thing that bothers me, however, is the first point that Moffat makes. That the new companion needs to be a contemporary human from earth so that new viewers will be able to follow the show. I understand that Moffat wants viewers to see the Doctor and his adventures through the eyes of the companion, but does this statement mean that we will never have an 'alien' companion again? If this is true then that is definitely sad news.

So what do you think of these tiny teasers from Steven Moffat himself?

  1. Goddamnit Moffet. The show is NOT called "The Companion Show" He places WAY WAY WAY too much emphasis on the companions and the need for the audience to relate to them.

NO. WE. DON'T. It's like Batman. . .if the show was focused on Robin the whole time.
