Violin medley from Middle Earth and Hyrule

Lindsey Sterling has been creating a lot of buzz around the net with her recent violin medley videos and the buzz is well deserved. Sterling is an exceptional violin player and had composed her own original medleys for these videos. Her playing is one thing but knowing that she composed the pieces herself makes the videos and the songs that much better and truly impressive. The videos themselves have great production value and are shot on some amazing (and perfect) locations.

Back in November, Lindsey released her video that featured an original composition of The Legend of Zelda songs. The original composition includes; The Legend of Zelda Main Theme, The Lost Woods, and Gerudo Valley. The video was shot in several different locations in Utah and shot over the course of two months to get in the different seasons which was a nice touch. The cosplay that Sterling wears in the video is Link's Zora Tunic from Ocarina of Time. The cosplay appears to be well made but as an avid The Legend of Zelda fan and Link cosplayer myself, I can spot some areas where the costume designer took some liberties. Nothing too major and the cosplay looks good all the same. I like that Sterling is moving around and dancing throughout the video because it shows that she is really feeling the music. However, in this particular video I feel it was overly done and according to feedback it has distracted viewers from the songs being played. Nevertheless, the video is great and the song is very well executed.

More recently (February 2nd), Lindsey released her newest video which featured her original composition for a The Lord of the Rings medley. For this video she had the chance to shoot in New Zealand while she was there on a trip and it created a great video background for this piece. Also, the fact that her friends had access to a helicopter to shoot this video is amazing. Sterling again dances and moves to the music in this video but I feel that it was much better handled this time and not as awkward in the The Legend of Zelda medley. We also get a chance to hear Sterling sing in this video and her voice is very good. Way to be a double threat! If you listen carefully she is singing "In Dreams" from The Fellowship of the Ring. Although she does not get the words completely right. It should go "When the cold of winter comes, starless night will cover day, in the veiling of the sun, we will walk in bitter rain." Makes you wonder if the change was a conscious choice or she simply made a mistake. Let's overlook this mistake and agree that the video is again well executed and the music well composed.
