New logo for DC Comics

DC comics is looking to replace to the current DC "Swirl" logo that was created by Josh Beatman in 2005 (this logo itself replaced the DC "Bullet" logo designed by Milton Grazer in 1976). However, fans may feel that the current design team may have missed the mark with the new logo (seen right) completely. The logo has been sent in for trademark protection according to BleedingCool. Devoid of any actual color this black/gray symbol features a letter "D" that is peeling back to reveal the letter "C" with the words "DC Comics" and "DC Entertainment" stacked underneath. Looking at the words for a moment, "DC Comics" works because it is the same size as the logo. On the other hand, when looking at "DC Entertainment", the words are twice as big as the logo and feels very odd. The logo itself feels very cold and corporate rather than a new and exciting comic logo. I do not know where DC is looking to go with this new logo but it feels like they'll have an uphill battle with the fans right from the start.  What do you think of this new logo? Hit or miss?

  1. That logo is on par for a corporate logo. However as a comics fan, I would not pick that as a logo for a comic brand. In short, I think it sucks... IMO.

    1. I have to agree with you. It just screams out "professional" and it's such a far cry from anything you would expect from a comic company.
