Eighth Doctor's New Look For Doctor Who

*This is older news but still worth reporting for those who had not heard it when it originally announced.

Paul McGann as the Eighth Doctor on Doctor Who only appeared on screen as the Doctor in the 1996 Fox tv movie. However, his adventures have continued for some time in the Big Finish audio adventures where the Eighth Doctor has flourished. Until now Big Finish has been using production stills from the tv movie for their covers for the Eighth Doctor adventures. This could only go on for so long until there was no more images to use.

Fans will be extremely excited to hear that Doctor Who News Page has reported on the new Eighth Doctor outfit. That's right, his new outfit! During an appearance at the Armageddon Pop Culture Expo in New Zealand, McGann appeared on stage with some of the items for his new look.

This new look has a double-breasted Naval jacket with a courier pouch bag. The article states that the shirt and jeans that McGann was wearing were his own and not part of the outfit which seems likely. "Also revealed is a new sonic screwdriver, courtesy of Weta Workshop, the wizards behind the effects on The Lord of the Rings. The screwdriver is similar to the one used by the current Doctor, Matt Smith, but has a wooden handle."

This new Eighth Doctor outfit is obviously still being put together but it's a good guess that this look will be featured for the Eighth Doctor's adventures for Big Finish and other media sources. Doctor Who News Page reports that this look "is believed to have the blessing of the BBC". I am sure that McGann is excited to have this new look as he has said in the past that he wasn't big on the old look and would be excited to come back as the Doctor if he didn't have to wear the wig.

I personally like the direction of this new look since the jacket has a similar look to that of the Ninth Doctor so its an easy transition and the new screwdriver fits in perfectly with the look of the Eighth Doctor's TARDIS interior that we see in the 1996 tv movie. I also like the addition of the bag. Cannot wait to see the finished look.

  2. Me too! I wonder how hard it would be to make something similar. I should look into that.
