Stan Lee's NHL Guardians

The newest project from comic writer icon Stan Lee is the NHL Guardian Project. The Guardian superheroes were created to correspond to the each of the National Hockey League teams (30 in all) and each Guardian has their own special powers that reflect their team and city. The Guardians were officially unveiled at the NHL All-Star Game on Sunday, January 30, 2011.

This is an awkward promotion for the NHL but as their media coverage suffers compared to the other major sports (baseball, basketball, and football), I am not surprised that they accepted it. Also, after going though each Guardian you can't help but feel that Stan Lee was just really looking for something new to work on and it didn't matter what came along first. When you look through the Guardians there are many that stand out as copies of already created Marvel superheroes either by look or their powers. For example 'The Coyote' looks exactly like Wolverine and 'The Panther' looks like Black Panther. As a comic fan and a die-hard New York Rangers fan this was definitely a fun idea but Stan Lee did not have his 'A' team working on this one. I'll still check in to see whats new though. Who knows, it might get better. Right?

Check out The Guardian Project official site for more info including powers, back stories, comics, and all the Guardians adventures. Also check them out on their Facebook page to see pictures of all the Guardians and updates.
