HBO orders "House of the Dragon" - a new prequel series to Game of Thrones.


Fresh off of the news that HBO had canceled the Game of Thrones prequel series "The Long Night" starring Naomi Watts, the have given the green light to another prequel series "House of the Dragon". This new prequel will be based on George R.R. Martin's 2019 book Fire and Blood and is set 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones telling the history of House Targaryen and how it took over Westeros. HBO has ordered 10 episodes for the series and although it has not been stated when the series will air, fans will undoubtedly be excited.

George R.R. Martin amd Miguel Sapochnik (director of the Game of Thrones episode "Battle of the Bastards") will serve as showrunners. Joining them will be Ryan Condal who is best known as a writer for Colony.

Here is a description of the book that may give fans some insight into the upcoming series:
"Centuries before the events of A Game of Thrones, House Targaryen—the only family of dragonlords to survive the Doom of Valyria—took up residence on Dragonstone. Fire & Blood begins their tale with the legendary Aegon the Conqueror, creator of the Iron Throne, and goes on to recount the generations of Targaryens who fought to hold that iconic seat, all the way up to the civil war that nearly tore their dynasty apart."
