Andy Serkis has been confirmed as the director for Venom 2.
It has been revealed by Andy Serkis that he has signed on to direct Venom 2, the sequel to the 2018 Sony film, Venom. There isn't much information yet but what we do know comes from Serkis' announcement where he shares a comic cover image. It seems that Venom 2 will continue to follow the "Lethal Protector" storyline that the original film started.
The "Lethal Protector" storyline has Spider-Man and Venom come to terms that Venom will leave New York to travel to San Francisco and not cause any trouble. When headlines start popping up labeling Venom as a menace Spider-Man goes over to see what is really going on. During this visit, Spider-Man winds up teaming up with Venom against five new symbiotes; Scream, Phage, Riot, Lasher, and Agony.
The story will obviously be modified to exclude Spider-Man when it hits theaters. A lot of people are really excited by this announcement but I am just not one of them. Serkis has done some great things in front of the camera but he hasn't proven himself behind the camera in my opinion. His directorial credits include Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle, The Ruins of Empires (tv movie), and Breath. Not exactly a stellar list but lets hope that this is the film where he really proves himself.
