Nintendo announces the Nintendo Switch Lite.

Nintendo  has just released a new announcement video that introduces the newest member to the Nintendo Switch family, the Nintendo Switch Lite. This new console is smaller, cheaper, and will play in hand-held mode only. But don't worry Nintendo Fans. The Switch Lite will not be replacing your original Nintendo Switch.

Releasing on September 20, 2019, this new console will cost gamers $200 which is $100 less than the original switch. Along with a new, compelling price point there are a few distinct differences between the Switch and the Switch Lite. The Lite will be smaller with a 5.5-inch 720-pixel screen (6.2-inch on the original), will not have TV connectivity and will not feature detachable joy-con controllers. There is also a true D-Pad on the Lite on the left side of the console replacing the four direction button on the original. It should also be noted that there are no current plans to put a real D-Pad on the original Switch joy-cons.

The Switch Lite will have most of the same internal Switch features; 32GB of storage, a MicroSD card slot, headphone jack, USB-C for charging, 720-pixel touchscreen (but smaller at 5.5 inches). The Switch Lite will have Wi-Fi, NFC and will be able to connect to extra joy-con controllers. It is also being reported that it may have 20-30% longer battery life which shouldn't be too surprising with the smaller screen.

Watch and enjoy the announcement video below.

The Nintendo Switch Lite will be released on September 20, 2019.
