First teaser trailer for the BBC's His Dark Materials reveals the cast and teases the alethiometer.

The BBC released the first teaser trailer for their upcoming His Dark Materials series this morning and fans are loving it. This series was greenlit back in 2015 so fans have been waiting a while for it to come.

The series is based on the young adult fantasy novel trilogy from Philip Pullman. The first book in the trilogy The Golden Compass was adapted in 2007 but the last two were never made. This newest adaptation will star Dafne Keen (Logan) as Lyra Belacqua. James McAvoy (Glass) as Lord Asriel, Lin-Manuel Miranda (Mary Poppins Returns) as Lee Scoresby, Ruth Wilson (The Affair) as Marisa Coulter and Clarke Peters (The Wire) as Dr. Carne.

The trailer reveals the cast of the series and very little else. However, if you watch closely not only do you get some very cool visual hints at some exciting moments but you also get a glimpse of Lyra's alethiometer, a device that looks like a compass and allows it's user to communicate with Dust and find truthful answers to their questions
