A new Ghostbusters film from Jason Reitman is being developed that will take place in the original Ghostbusters universe.

Ghostbusters fans were just handed a ray of hope as Entertainment Weekly announced that Ivan Reitman's (director of the original Ghostbusters films) son, Jason Reitman, has been given control of the franchise and is bringing fans back to the original universe. The exciting thing about this is that it will continue the story from the first films.
"“This is the next chapter in the original franchise. It is not a reboot. What happened in the ‘80s happened in the ‘80s, and this is set in the present day.”"
It'll be so cool to see the Ghostbusters in the modern day and see how they, and their technology, has progressed.

The film is currently set to be released in 2020 with production to begin in a few months. Although this seems close we are still too far out to have any details on what the story will be about or whether the original (living) actors will reprise their roles.

When talking about the 2016 reboot from director Paul Feig, Jason Reitman stated that this new project will not have anything to do with that particular film by stating,
"“I have so much respect for what Paul created with those brilliant actresses, and would love to see more stories from them. However, this new movie will follow the trajectory of the original film,”"

Below you can see Reitman's Instagram post where he confirms EW's story.

Ivan Reitman, the original films' director and Jason's father, will be signed on to this new project as a producer. This is a great way for Ivan to pass the Ghostbusters torch down to his son.

Are you excited to see the franchise return to the original universe? Are you as excited as I am?!
