"Shrek" and "Puss in Boots" will be rebooted by Universal Pictures.

It appears as though no franchise is safe from the reboot movie era. It has just been revealed by Variety that Universal Pictures has brought on Chris Meledandri (Despicable Me) to reboot the Shrek series as well as Puss in Boots. Fans' initial reactions to this news has not been positive and that is to be expected as the original franchise is so great.

The interesting thing about this reboot is that Chris Meledandri wants to keep the amazing voice cast of the original series. I think it'll be hard to reboot the series with the same voice cast and still have it feel like an actual reboot instead of just another chapter in the saga. Speaking about this to Variety, Meledandri stated,

"“When you look back on those vocal performances they’re awesome, and while you certainly could make a case for a complete reinvention, I find myself responding to my own nostalgic feelings of wanting to go back to those characterizations. The challenge for us has been to find something that really does feel like it’s not simply yet another film in a series of sequels.”"
Are you on board for a Shrek and Puss in Boots reboot? What do you think about bringing the original voices back for these new movies? Can they really be called a reboot?
