The creators of Game of Thrones will write and produce a new Star Wars film series.

It seems that Star Wars and Game of Thrones are about to have a few more things in common. Lucasfilm announced today that the creators of Game of Thrones, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, have signed on to write and produce a brand new series of Star Wars films. It was also announced that these films will be separate from the Skywalker saga and the recently announced trilogy that will be developed by Rian Johnson.

Speaking about the announcement, President of Lucasfilm Kathleen Kennedy stated,

"“David and Dan are some of the best storytellers working today. Their command of complex characters, depth of story and richness of mythology will break new ground and boldly push Star Wars in ways I find incredibly exciting.”"
It's not only Kennedy that is excited about this new endeavor. Benioff and Weiss commented that,
"“In the summer of 1977 we traveled to a galaxy far, far away, and we’ve been dreaming of it ever since. We are honored by the opportunity, a little terrified by the responsibility, and so excited to get started as soon as the final season of Game of Thrones is complete.”"
At this moment there is no official information on what the new series will be about or when it would be tentatively released.

With the current main saga still having one more film to complete the newest trilogy, the stand alone "Star Wars Story" films, and the announced Rian Johnson trilogy, this new trilogy of films certainly makes the galaxy a crowded place. Is Disney pushing Star Wars a little too hard? Are they over saturating the market? It certainly feels like they are dancing on that line. What do you think?
