Rapid Fire (First Impressions) Review - Marvel's Inhumans.

In Realm Beyond Sight's "Rapid Fire Review" I hit the good, the bad, and try to get out before the review becomes too long winded. In this new review I take a look at the newest Marvel television show, Inhumans.

With negative critic reviews and poor reception from its IMAX release, Inhumans definitely had an up hill battle to fight with fans. Unfortunately, the first episode of the new series didn't do much to calm this bloggers nerves about the show doing well. Also, giving it a Friday night at 9pm time slot shows the network's lack of faith in the show.

The upsetting thing about Inhumans is that there is a lot of potential for the show to be great but it hasn't yet convinced me that it will be. The best part of the show, to me, was the characters of Crystal (Isabelle Cornish), Lockjaw (giant CGI dog), and Gorgon (Eme Ikwuakor). Between these three you have the playful duo of Crystal and Lockjaw and the seriousness of Gorgon with decent acting. The rest of the cast came off stiff with little appeal.

The editing and effects for Queen Medusa's hair, which she has the ability to control and use as a weapon, looks atrocious. The scenes in which she controls her hair completely pull you out of the show because you're busy looking at the hair's movement wondering why it looks so bad. Attilan, the Inhuman's hidden city on the moon is boring to explore with its block geometry and overall gray appearance encompassing the entire city. It's a trope they should have stayed away from. You would hope that the writing would pull you in and make you forget about these drawbacks but you would be completely mistaken.

Clearly, the first episode of this new Marvel show did not convince me it will do well. I still think there's potential there but I just don't know if it will reveal itself soon enough. My recommendation here is to watch at your own risk.
