Jimmy Vee is officially cast as R2-D2 in Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

It was with great sadness that I had to report the passing of Kenny Baker, the actor who portrayed R2-D2 in the Star Wars franchise, last August. Baker starred in every Star Wars films as R2.

It has been announced today that actor Jimmy Vee will be replacing the late Kenny Baker as the lovable droid, R2-D2. Vee has been seen previously as various aliens on Doctor Who and The Sarah Jane Adventures and has worked on several Harry Potter projects

Jimmy Vee released the following statement about his involvement with the new film and taking over the role,

""It's been an absolute pleasure to have worked alongside the legendary Kenny Baker. Kenny was a fantastic actor and taught me all the 'tricks' on how he brought R2-D2 to life which I will continue to portray in his honour. I'm so excited to be a part of the Star Wars universe and can't wait for everyone to see what we've been working so hard on for the last year.""

Welcome to the Star Wars family, Jimmy Vee.
