Marvel and Freeform cast their Cloak and Dagger for the upcoming show.

Big news has been released for Marvel fans who have anxiously awaiting the Cloak and Dagger television show to air on Freeform. Originally set for ABC Family (before it was Freeform) this show has been in the works for 5 years and fans are extremely excited for it. Disney and Freeform have revealed who has been cast as the title characters.

Cast in the roles are Aubrey Joseph (The Night Of) as "Cloak" and former Disney Channel star Olivia Holt as "Dagger".

Show synopsis:

"Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger follows the interracial romance between Tandy Bowen (Holt) and Tyrone Johnson (Joseph), who come from starkly different backgrounds, each growing up with a secret they never dared share with another soul. Tandy can emit light daggers and Tyrone has the ability to engulf others in darkness. They quickly learn they are better together than apart — but their feelings for each other make their already complicated world even more challenging."

While speaking about the show, Jeph Loeb, Head of Marvel Television and Executive Producer, stated,

"“Marvel is delighted to have found our “Cloak & Dagger”. Olivia Holt and Aubrey Joseph encompass the true essence of the characters and we are excited for the audience to see them in these roles.”"

In case you are unfamiliar with these characters, let's take a close look at them and who will portray them in the upcoming show.

"Tandy­ (Oliva Holt – “Dagger”) Once a privileged little girl, Tandy Bowen watched as her family was destroyed by a disastrous storm that uprooted her life. Now in her late teens, an unexpected encounter with a boy named Tyrone sparks a life changing event."

"Tyrone (Aubrey Joesph – “Cloak”) ­ Young Tyrone Johnson wanted nothing more than to prove he was fearless. But when everything he held close was taken away, life taught Tyrone to be afraid. Now older and more sheltered, Tyrone closes himself off. But when he meets a girl named Tandy his life changes Forever."

It'll be interesting to see how this show will turn out. Especially since Cloak and Dagger will seemingly be young in this series. Perhaps a full origin will be told for them and then maybe some small connections to the larger Marvel universe? I can't wait to find out!

Cloak and Dagger will premiere on Freeform in 2018.
