The aliens return in the first trailer for Independence Day: Resurgence.

It's here! The much anticipated trailer for Roland Emmerich's Independence Day: Resurgence has officially been released online and fans are loving it! Delivering returning actors/characters, aliens, and some big action scenes this trailer looks to be bigger than the original film.

Film synopsis:

"We always knew they were coming back. After INDEPENDENCE DAY redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter delivers global spectacle on an unimaginable scale. Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens’ advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction."

I have to say that for me personally that I was a little disappointed with this trailer. It's just the first trailer so most of what we get is flashes of characters and the hint of the oncoming alien armada. The film seems like it is trying a little to hard to be a "big action film" however. It just seems like it will have a different feel than the original. I am still going to give the film a shot though as this is just one trailer.
