Ewan McGregor talks about Star Wars: The Force Awakens' crossguard lightsaber and confirms he'd return to Star Wars as Obi-Wan Kenobi!

Actor Ewan McGregor brought new life into the character of Obi-Wan Kenobi when he was cast in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace in 1999. We watched the character grow into a strong Jedi Master and fight in one of the most memorable fight sequence in the Star Wars franchise when he battled Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. Now that Disney is making more films for the franchise Ewan McGregor has spoken out and confirmed that he would return to play Obi-Wan again if asked. He also comments on Star Wars: The Force Awakens and the controversial crossguard lightsaber!

While be interviewed by Thompson on Hollywood, McGregor first briefly spoke about the upcoming film Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

"“I’m excited about it as much as anyone else. I saw the trailer and it looks like he absolutely nailed it and it feels right. But I’m not sure about the [crossguard] lightsaber. If you fight with a lightsaber properly you don’t need one.”"

I actually really like that he commented on the new style lightsaber and cannot wait to see how it is used in the film to put the big "Is it a good idea or bad one" debate to rest. His comment however is very intriguing and actually may tell us a little something about the new character without him realizing he did. What if this new character is still building his saber technique and that is why he needs a crossguard?

McGregor next spoke about his possible future involvement in the franchise and stated,

"“I’ll say it publicly, here, now. I’d be happy to do the story between Episode 3, that I finished in, and Episode 4 that Alec Guinness started in. I think that would be good. Disney should definitely do that.”"

There is a lot of stories that can be told between Episodes 3 and 4 and although that is what the current Disney cartoon Star Wars Rebels is doing it would still be very cool to see one of these stories put on the big screen.
