Harley Quinn co-creator, Bruce Timm, comments on Harley's new look in the Suicide Squad film.

The iconic Batman character Harley Quinn was co-created by Bruce Timm and Paul Dini. The character made her debut in September 1992 in the Batman: The Animated Series episode "Joker's Favor". She soon became a fan favorite character and jumped from the small screen into the comics. Flash forward 23 years and Harley is now making her big screen debut in the upcoming DC film Suicide Squad.

Bruce Timm recently did an interview with io9 where he spoke about Harley and what he thought about her new look in the film that was revealed this week.
"I just saw the pic like a couple hours ago. It was interesting. I was frankly a little nervous about what Harley would look like, but I thought she looked really cool. So I’m optimistic, we'll see."
It looks like the new Harley has the approval of her creator which is always nice to see. The interview went on to talk about Harley's psyche and her most important character qualities:
"It’s funny, because she started off as just like a one joke idea and she’s gained all these different dimensions from all the stories we did, and the stuff that happens in the comics. I think bottom line the most important thing about her is that she’s funny. One way or the other regardless of what her backstory is, or whether she’s in an abusive relationship with the Joker, or if she’s off on her own, or hanging out with Poison Ivy, or whether she’s a villain or a hero. I think bottomline her stories always have to be fun, if not flat out hilarious (but that would be even better). That’s one of the things I like about the current comic. They understand that, they’re not treating her as another angsty bizarre superhero type character. She’s really weird and funny and kind of chaotic."

If this new Harley Quinn captures the quirky, funny personality that Timm talks about here then the character will be a big success. Harley's fun loving attitude mixed with her crazy ideas is what I love about her and what many fans out there love about her. It's great that Bruce Timm is on board for this new Harley and as her creator it must be exciting to see how his character is developing and growing.
