First promotional photos from the film The Giver are released!

The first promotional images have just been released for the movie adaptation of Lois Lowry's 1993 classic The Giver. With Jeff Bridges taking on the title character of The Giver, this film will be different than the book in a few ways.
"“The movie will not be an exact duplication of the book. It’s taking a lot of licenses,” says Bridges. The Chief Elder (played by Meryl Streep, Bridges’ first choice for the role), for example, takes on a more significant role than in the book."
Another big stand out difference that you'll see in the photos is that the main character of Jonas will no longer be 12 years old. Instead the film has aged him to 16. This is a rather unusual move and one that many fans of the book may not like. Not many may know but Jeff Bridges has been trying to get this film made for almost 20 years and is very passionate about the book and film. With this in mind I have faith that he would not hurt the film.
"Fans can rest easy knowing that Lowry has worked closely with Bridges and Noyce to ensure her vision is represented — right down to dressing the extras on set. “I was happy to hear from Lois that she wasn’t so concerned about all the facts being the same as in the book,” says Bridges. “The spirit of the story is there.”"

The book focuses on a boy named Jonas who is chosen at age 12 to become the community’s new Receiver of Memories. However, after a few meetings with the town's "Giver" he realizes there is a lot more to the perfect world that he lives in. With these new realizations, Jonas must make hard choices that could affect a lot more than just himself.

The film will star Jeff Bridges (The Giver), Brenton Thwaites (Jonas), Meryl Streep (Chief Elder), Alexander Skarsgard (Jonas' father), Katie Holmes (Jonas's mother) and Taylor Swift (Rosemary).

Take a look at the photos below that will show off Jeff Bridges as The Giver and Brenton Thwaites as Jonas.

The Giver will hit theaters on August 15, 2015.
