Anna Paquin's Rogue gets cut from X-Men: Days of Future Past!
It has been confirmed by director Bryan Singer that Anna Paquin's role as Rogue has been cut from the upcoming film X-Men: Days of Future Past. Paquin filmed only a single scene for the upcoming film and after Singer and the editing team went through the film it wound up on the cutting room floor. This is definitely upsetting news as this could have been the film to fix Rogue's character (which had great potential but never reached it). Bryan Singer spoke to Entertainment weekly stating:
"Through the editing process, the sequence became extraneous,” explains Singer. “It’s a really good sequence and it will probably end up on the DVD so people can see it. But like many things in the editing process, it was an embarrassment of riches and it was just one of the things that had to go. Unfortunately, it was the one and only sequence Anna Paquin was in, the Rogue character was in. Even though she’s in the materials and part of the process of making the film, she won’t appear in it."
I'm really surprised to hear that Paquin only had a single scene in the movie. Singer insisted that the decision to cut the scene had nothing to do with Paquin and that she did a great job.
"She did a fantastic job,” says the director. “She was awesome in the sequence. She’s a brilliant actress. I would work with her in a heartbeat."
"She completely understood,” he says. “It’s very disappointing, but she’s very professional and she knows that stuff happens, particularly with material you shoot early on in production. Films evolve."
