Hayao Miyazaki announces retirement at Venice Film Festival.

Saan from Princess Mononoke
Studio Ghibli president Hoshino Koji made a very big announcement at the Venice Film Festival that many fans may be sad to hear. Legendary animator Hayao Miyazaki (72 years old) is retiring from feature film making. Miyazaki's films include Princess Mononoke, Castle in the Sky, My Neighbor Totoro, Porco Rosso, Spirited Away, Ponyo, and more.

The announcement came from the festival where he was screening his last film The Wind Rises. Perhaps Miyazaki may still dabble in film shorts since his retirement is from "feature films" but we'll have to wait and see if this is the case.

Miyazaki and his brilliant films will be missed but I know that fans will continue to watch and love his works. Are you sad to see Miyazaki retire? Which Miyazaki film(s) is your favorite?
