John Hurt's character for the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary could change EVERYTHING on the show!

*Rumors / Possible spoilers ahead*

Rumors concerning actor John Hurt's character for the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary episode have been flying around in the last few days but things may have just heated up as more news has surfaced that may seem to confirm those rumors. If things turn out to be true, Doctor Who will certainly be changed forever. Certainly in the eyes of the fans.

Actor John Hurt (far right) with David Tennant and Matt Smith in background.

Hurt recently did an interview where he stated that he plays “part of the Doctor” in a “kind of trinity” with Matt Smith and David Tennant. This seemed to spark truth in recent rumors that Hurt was actually playing an incarnation of the Doctor that the Doctor himself had forgotten about. To make things weirder, Hurt would be the actual Ninth Doctor if this was true.

Now an anonymous source has come forward with more news:
“John will play the real Ninth Doctor. Christopher Eccleston has always been thought of as the Ninth Doctor but now that John has been revealed as the Ninth Doctor, it shuffles Eccleston’s Doctor to be the Tenth Time Lord, Tennant the 11th and Smith the 12th.
“It also means the Doctor’s time is running out as he can only regenerate 12 times.”
“Steven loves a complex plot and there will be plenty of surprises along the way.
“The reason the Doctor has forgotten his ninth incarnation will become clear but it’s to do with the Time War and his shame over his behaviour in it.
“Tennant and Smith’s Doctors will at first refuse to accept Hurt is them — until their sonic screwdrivers confirm it and announce, ‘He’s us. He’s the ninth us’.
On his costume they claim: “John was given a very familiar look that goes half way between two regenerations.”

You can see in the photo above that John Hurt is wearing a waistcoat that could be from the Eighth Doctor and a black leather jacket that could become the Ninth Doctor's. If this turns out to be true this will be one of the biggest changes that the show has seen. How will fans take to calling Eccleston, Tennant, and Smith a different number Doctor? It may seem like a small thing to people not familiar to the show but to die-hard fans this is huge.

I am excited for such a big story but at the same time I just don't know how to take this news just yet. How would you feel if this all turns out to be true?
