Disney shuts down LucasArts and cancels all games in production!
When Disney purchased LucasFilm from George Lucas fans knew that there would be changes coming but I do not think that anyone saw this coming. In a unexpected move, Disney has shut down LucasArts which was a video game developer and publisher.
LucasArts has laid off the majority of its staff and is being reconstructed from a game developer to a game licenser.
“After evaluating our position in the games market, we’ve decided to shift LucasArts from an internal development to a licensing model, minimizing the company’s risk while achieving a broader portfolio of quality Star Wars games," LucasArts parent company LucasFilm said in a statement. "As a result of this change, we’ve had layoffs across the organization. We are incredibly appreciative and proud of the talented teams who have been developing our new titles.”As a result of this change LucasArts is no longer developing Star Wars 1313. It is being said that they could possibly look to have another developer finish it but the chances are very slim. The game Star Wars: First Assault however looks to be cancelled entirely.
What do you think of LucasArts changing directions and cancelling their current games? Do you think this is the right move for the company?
