New Zealand issues commemorative The Hobbit coins and stamps!
With the upcoming release of Peter Jackson's The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, the country of New Zealand will be issuing a set of commemorative coins and stamps that will honor Tolkien's books and the upcoming movies. These coins and stamps will be released on November 1, 2012.
If you are a Tolkien fan and looking to get your hands on these items you'll have to dish out quite a bit of money as you will not find them in circulation and the price tag on them is quite the hefty sum.
AFP had this to comment on the price tag of these coins:
"The most expensive, made from one ounce (28.3 grams) of pure gold, will set Tolkien enthusiasts back NZ$3,695 ($3,020) but has a face value of just NZ$10, while the cheapest is a NZ$1 coin retailing for NZ$29.90."
The coins will be legal tender in the country of New Zealand but you can bet that fans who get their hands on them will be displaying them in cases on their shelves rather than sitting in their wallets. The stamps on the other hand are a little more affordable. Will you be looking to add these items to your collection?
