Director of The Wolverine states it will NOT be a prequel!
Some very big, and shocking, news has surfaced about the upcoming film The Wolverine. Director James Mangold came forward in an interview with Empire Magazine and cleared up the timeline issue that has been surrounding his film. Until now fans had thought that The Wolverine would be a prequel to the X-Men films and focus on Logan's past. However, Mangold is now saying that the film is not a prequel and will actually take place after the original X-Men trilogy.
"Where this film sits in the universe of the films is after them all," reveals Mangold. "Jean Grey is gone, most of the X-Men are disbanded or gone, so there's a tremendous sense of isolation for him."
This quote may confuse fans since we just found out that Famke Janssen would be making a cameo in the movie as Jean Grey who Mangold just stated would still be dead. This would lead us to believe that Jean Grey's cameo will come as part of a flashback. Mangold then goes on to state that besides the connection with Jean Grey that this film will take place outside of the X-Men continuity.

"I wanted to be able to tell the story without the burden of handing it off to a film that already exists and having to conform to it."How do you feel about The Wolverine not being a prequel? Think this choice will help the movie capture its own identity?
