Man of Steel teaser trailer gets split reactions from fans [video]

The official teaser trailer for Man of Steel has hit the theaters along with The Dark Knight Rises and fans are split on how they feel about the tone and music choice. What fans may not know is that there is actually two separate teasers with different voice overs in them. One teaser features a voice over by Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent (Superman's adopted Earth father) while the other features Russel Crowe as Jor-El (Superman's Kryptonian father).

In the Jonathan Kent voice over you hear Costner say, "You're not just anyone. One day, you're gonna have to make a choice. You have decide what kind of man you want to grow up to be. Whoever that man is, good character or bad, is gonna change the world."

In Russel Crowe's voice over teaser you hear Jor-El say, "You will give the people an ideal to strive towards. They'll race behind you, they will stumble. They will fall. But in time, they will join you in the sun. In time, you will help them accomplish wonders."

The teaser takes a very simplistic approach to introducing Superman and really focuses on the character's solitude as he tries to find himself. Where some fans find this a fresh approach for the Superman franchise showing a side to him that we do not often see, many others feel that they have gone too overly simplistic and are left wondering why the studio could not create their own original score for the trailer. Listen carefully and you'll hear that the score being used is actually from Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings. This has outraged fans of the The Lord of the Rings franchise as they feel that Zach Snyder had no right to use that song for his trailer as it is already tied to a powerful moment in The Lord of the Rings. The song being used is from the scene where Gandalf dies in The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. Do you feel it was okay for Snyder to use the song or is this crossing a line?

One last point on the trailer, is the dog that we see with Clark as a young boy and adult supposed to be “Krypto”?
