Happy Birthday, Doctor Who!! 48 years ago today, people gathered around their television sets to watch the very first Doctor Who episode, which was titled An Unearthly Child. (If you haven't had the chance to watch this episode yourself, then check it out below and enjoy the episode that started it all.)
Without giving away too much in the description the first episode introduces us to Susan Foreman (the Doctor's Granddaughter) and her school teachers. Upon following Susan home one day, her teachers discover a police phone box (the TARDIS) and an elderly man named the Doctor (William Hartnell). The Doctor that we are introduced to is much more strict than his current incarnations and not much is learned about him in this first half hour episode. The episode ends with ... well, watch to find out.
Since it aired in 1963, Doctor Who has become the longest running science fiction show on television and a world wide phenomenon. Fan accounts say that it is hard for someone new to the show to want to watch a single episode and not want to watch one more to see what happens. From there, a new fan is born.
