Netflix announces a live action Avatar: The Last Airbender series with original creators with a great piece of concept art.

In an unexpected turn it looks like Avatar: The Last Airbender is coming back! It was announced today that the iconic Nickelodeon show would be making its way to Netflix as a live action series. At first glance this may worry, even scare, some fans who remember the 2010 M. Night Shyamalan film which was a huge flop with fans. However, the original show creators Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko are signed on to this Netflix project as executive producers and showrunners! So you know they will be handling this series carefully and do it justice.

Check out this piece of concept art that was released for the upcoming show.

Speaking about the upcoming project, Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko stated,
"“We’re thrilled for the opportunity to helm this live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender. We can’t wait to realize Aang’s world as cinematically as we always imagined it to be, and with a culturally appropriate, non-whitewashed cast. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime chance to build upon everyone’s great work on the original animated series and go even deeper into the characters, story, action, and world-building. Netflix is wholly dedicated to manifesting our vision for this retelling, and we’re incredibly grateful to be partnering with them.”"
It's clear they do not want another M. Night Shyamalan fiasco. Netflix’s VP of Kids & Family Content, Melissa Cobb, also spoke on the project saying,

"“We are committed to honoring Bryan and Mike’s vision for this retelling and are thrilled to support them on creating a live-action event series, bringing Aang’s epic world of elemental magic to life for global audiences on Netflix.""
This new series will be made in partnership with Nickelodeon which may also please fans and is scheduled to go into production next year.
